I believe that all US bound flights now have an additional security check .. a short list of questions asked by security staff between check in and boarding .. that’s probably what is being referred to ...

Exactly.  You are being pre-cleared to board, not pre-cleared to enter the USA.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Yes, you are probably right. Do you know what kind of questions I should expect?

What kind of questions did they ask?

Is this your luggage?  Did you pack it yourself?  Did anyone unknown to you give you anything to carry onboard the aircraft?  Yada yada yada

YMMV

Haven’t had these questions at the  additional security ..  I get those at checkin. The added security is usually .. purpose of your visit , where you are going , why, .. the sort of questions I used to be asked when going through a CBP manned booth on entry into the US.. the person asking them at pre clearance  isn’t CBP but an employee of whatever company has the security contract at the airport ..  not even a government agency like TSA. Simple answers are all that’s needed

Many airports have additional security screenings prior to boarding.   I went through it in HK and Seoul.   This is not immigration preclearance.

Amsterdam has the most thorough and interesting security screening I have been through anywhere...You will know if you have been through legit  immigration preclearance as your passport will be stamped as an arrival. At least it is from Toronto to St. Louis.

This provides further pre-clearance information:

These are the exact questions my husband and I were asked when we were checking in for our flight from Sao Paulo to Miami on Sunday, his initial entry to the US on a CR-1 visa.  That was it for "additional security," and the airline (LATAM), said to be at the airport three hours before the flight for two minutes of questions.  These questions were asked of everyone checking in for the flight.  POE in Miami was simple, we went to secondary and all he had to show was his passport with the CR-1 visa inside, everything else was electronic, it took less than 30 minutes.

Hello,

The notice below is on the Lufthansa website, after purchasing ticket. As I have not yet entered the United States and have a "Conditional" Permanent Residence visa, am I exempted for filling out the APIS?

The country of residence is slightly tricky, as I am leaving Saudi Arabia on a final exit visa so it is no longer considered my place of residence.

Appreciate your advice, thank you.

You are still a US permanent resident so you should be exempt
