What are the chances that the Immigration Officer would actually deny your entry to the US on a K1 visa?  Does it happen often or do they need a very convincing reason to actually deny your entry?

So small that you shouldn't be worrying about it unless you're a convicted criminal who lied about your criminal history or anything similar.

Very, very rare...there would need to be a reason that they believe you have become inadmissible or ineligible for the visa.

At the same time, obviously you don't want to tempt fate. One guy was asked if he plans to marry within 90 days and responded "maybe I will, maybe I won't"...then was denied.

There are also others who have done a wedding ceremony (legal or otherwise), which CBP may determine you are no longer free to marry & therefore not eligible for the visa.

WEll there are a few reasons they can turn you around.

Such as

- Tell them you might get married or might not (yes someone actually said this he was on the next plane out)

- Call your fiance(e) husband or wife when you are not supposed to be married.

-commit a crime before entry and they find out about it

-have something in your record that was missed that  needed a waiver but the CO's overlooked it. (not you hiding it they just somehow missed it needed a waiver and yes this has happened too)

There was a case on here some years ago where the beneficiary was denied entry, held for 15 hours in detention and then put on a plane back home. It was something to do with comments made at POE which led to a bag search where things were found that led the officer to believe that she was really coming to work and the engagement was a sham just to get into the country.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

It can happen but it's very very rare. The question was asked on reddit about a month ago and a longtime CBP officer who posts there said he could only recall it happening once or twice, like when the petitioner had contacted the POE and said the engagement is off don't let her in.

There was one a few years ago (2015ish) where a beneficiary was denied entry because the CBP officer said their visa was invalid because the petition (I-129F) expiration date had passed. Even though the visa was valid, the CBP officer was confused or misinformed. The beneficiary had to contact the Embassy and the visa was reprinted with an extended petition exp date so it wouldn't happen again.

That's the only time I've seen something like that happen though.
