My ex's citizenship back in 2017 (I think) took way less than a year, maybe seven months? I dunno, I was glad to have the I-864 be over and done with. Congrats to you and your wife though.  

That's too long too. I'm not looking forward to going through AOS again, I hear it takes forever now. 

I got a buddy that is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Missed his wife's AOS interview becuse he had previous plans. They have rescheduled him now over a year out.

 

Same guy filed his K 1 them immediately filed a congressional.  His K 1 took over 14 months. Someone probably put him in the slow file

Back in the day K1 took about 300 days for us, from the filing to the receiving of the visa. AOS took 7 months and I think that is actually faster than it is now, but there was odd circumstances as the case never went to the local office, ROC took us about 14 months. I had expected 24 months at the time, but we were lucky to have been transferred. After all that wait though they still screwed up the green card.

 

None of the policy changes will fix anything about line jumping, as you put it, and with the increased paperwork burden on the petitioner and the caseworker.. it's only going to get worse. You can also probably expect citizenship apps to spike even higher as people panic and don't want the government in their business anymore.

   As always, the problem in retrospect with any "comprehensive" reform is that for every issue that gets "fixed", something else tends to get broken. Back in 1996 congress was still functional to a degree and that was what they came up with. Today, congress is barely capable of doing anything at the best of times, so I don't expect anything they do to be an improvement.  Nowadays, it would probably be best if they just focus on one major issue at a time and see if they can just get that right. Anything complicated, congress is going to struggle to find a solution. They can't come up with anything. They can't compromise. They barely communicate. It is beyond them.
