US Embassy Steps Query

Hey all,

I'm hoping that this hasn't been asked before, if so, I couldn't find it. 😬

In the London Embassy's step-by-step guide for the visa, it says

Step 1 - Registering with the Courier Service

Step 2 - Application Form (DS-160)

Step 3 - Supporting Documents

Step 4 - Scheduling the Interview

Step 5 - Medical Examination

It says in step 4, that you can schedule your visa interview after the medical, right? But then, in step 5, it says to schedule a medical?

Wouldn't the medical be step 4? It's all very confusing...

Hope you guys can help!!

Schedule your medical as soon as you get your NVC number then schedule your interview for about 2 weeks after that date to ensure the embassy receives your medical in time for your interview. Hope that makes sense!

If I remember rightly (it's been a busy couple of months!) this was more like the right order.

Step 1 - Supporting Documents

Step 2 - Medical Examination

Step 3 - Application Form (DS-160)

Step 4 - Scheduling the Interview

Step 5 - Registering with the Courier Service

Schedule your medical once you have a LND case number & do your DS-160. Once you submit the DS-160 you can schedule an interview (be sure to pick a date 2 weeks after your medical), and as part of that process you also register with the courier service and can pre-pay for your passport to be delivered to you (otherwise you collect from a depot for free).

Keep in mind that once your medical is done, it expires in 6 months....along with the visa.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

In the London Embassy's step-by-step guide for the visa, it says

The London embassy instructions on the website changed recently. Totally screwed up!

I would suggest::

  1. Submit DS-160.
  2. Gather documents. (for interview as well as documents for medical appointment). You don't want a looming appointment if you hit a hiccup and won't have what you need for the appointment.
  3. Book your medical date by calling the clinic. 020 7486 7822.
  4. Book the courier, pay, and pick an interview date all at the same time on https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv. Select “I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a K visa appointment”. Leave 10-14 days between medical and interview for best results.

Attend your medical.

Attend your interview.

Wait for visa return

Gather documents step is important. See lists:

https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/required-documents/

http://www.visamedicals.co.uk/us-bring.htm

And do read all the information and FAQs on the embassy website instructions.

All you guys were super helpful, and I definitely did figure it out in the end - not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 but 2, 1, 3, 4, 5, 4!! 😮
It's all very weird...

But yeah, this is the route I went down in the end and now awaiting my medical next Thursday! 8/29!

For a good while, DCF people did pay on the day. Maybe because most spouses pay at the NVC and they never got the programmining worked out to ask for DCF spouse payment online like fiances do it. I guess they have worked it out now if it has asked you for payment. You'll get a payment receipt to show at the interview, so no worries about being asked to pay again. BUT the Immigrant Visa fee is $325.00, so the amount is puzzling. Sorry I can't help with the mechanics booking multiple family members in for interviews.

Thanks Wuozopo yes really confused as shows as a MRV fee sorry its $265 or £225.25

A fiancé visa  costs $265

A spouse or child costs $325

Did you pick K1 to get into the program so went down the wrong path?
