Everyone buys a round trip and shreds the return

Make sure you cancel the flight

Not true. My husband bought a one way ticket, it was a lot less expensive at the time. And if you see previous posters above, many come with one way tickets.

I'd buy the R/T and just cancel or not show up for the return flight. Only the airline will be upset with you for gaming their system. But up to you.

The airline won’t be upset because you will cancel the return flight. Why wouldn’t you?

Wow! Planning this far out for a visa that will take 6-9 months till interview is not very astute. Nothing that you see today will be available upon completion of your visa path. There are two options. One way or two way ticket. Whichever is cheaper is probably what you're are after. You can't use a return trip ticket for your outbound travel.

Most embassy's include this in their interview instructions.

You are advised not to make any travel arrangements, not to dispose of your property or give up your job until the visa has been issued to you. The maximum validity of an fiancé(e) visa is six (6) months from the date of issuance. You must travel to the United States within that 6-month period. Please do not request an interview unless you have definite plans to move to the United States within six (6) months.

I don´t wanna book the flight already I just wanted to see how much they are that I can at least plan a little how much money I need for what. I don´t wanna use the return ticket home but it´s just so much cheaper to book a flight that´s a round trip.. so I think I´ll just look after that :)

My (now) husband flew here on a one-way ticket from New Zealand.  No issues.

So you're moving here but have never been here to visit, and don't plan to until you have the visa?

It´s just so much more expensive or I have to fly for 30 hours with 3 stops.. but I´ll look at more again.

But no I was already twice in the US and try to fly there in October again if it works with the visa application.

Hey,

my US Fiancé and me just started the K1 Visa and I was already looking for flight tickets, that I know how much they will be when it´s time to move there.

The One-Way-Tickets from Germany to the US are about 2,200 € and a normal return ticket would be under 1,000 €. Now I´m wondering if I can buy a return ticket and just use the ticket there or if that would be a probelm? What ticket did you book when you were travelling there?

I ran into the same issue from the UK. What I did was went with Icelandair one-way. Their one-way flights were a good price and not outrageously expensive. Alternatively, you could buy a return flight and just not board the return flight. Some airlines MAY charge you for this. So I would go with the Icelandair option. Their planes are very new and clean.

I booked a return ticket  because it was a lot cheaper than a one-way and used my Delta Sky Miles as part of the payment. Knowing that I will not travel back and forth so much now anymore, I thought I might as well just use my miles and it saved me a lot of money on my ticket.

I booked a changeable ticket so I can use the return flight for a trip back to AMS in the Spring.

Roundtrip ticket worked for me. I saved about 50 %. You still have plenty of time to figure that out. It's a long drawn out process, unfortunately. The ticket should be the last thing to worry about, honestly.

But you'll be looking at around 700-1200 Euros depending on the season and how far in advance you book.

There's an unwritten rule that says around 50-55 days prior to  preferred departure date you'll see prices drop quite a bit.

Good Luck on your Journey. Dont drive yourself crazy! It will all fall into place but you have to be very patient.
