One-Way-Flight or return ticket?

Hey,

my US Fiancé and me just started the K1 Visa and I was already looking for flight tickets, that I know how much they will be when it´s time to move there.

The One-Way-Tickets from Germany to the US are about 2,200 € and a normal return ticket would be under 1,000 €. Now I´m wondering if I can buy a return ticket and just use the ticket there or if that would be a probelm? What ticket did you book when you were travelling there?

Wow! Planning this far out for a visa that will take 6-9 months till interview is not very astute. Nothing that you see today will be available upon completion of your visa path. There are two options. One way or two way ticket. Whichever is cheaper is probably what you're are after. You can't use a return trip ticket for your outbound travel.

Most embassy's include this in their interview instructions.

You are advised not to make any travel arrangements, not to dispose of your property or give up your job until the visa has been issued to you. The maximum validity of an fiancé(e) visa is six (6) months from the date of issuance. You must travel to the United States within that 6-month period. Please do not request an interview unless you have definite plans to move to the United States within six (6) months.

Ticket prices can change drastically over the next 10 months.......but, as others have stated, it make no difference to CBP if you arrive via a one-way ticket or a round trip ticket.........let your comfort and your pocketbook be your guide........but not until you have the visa in hand.

I bought a one way ticket solely because it was cheaper. Unfortunately I was travelling at the beginning of the summer season. (Still was expensive compared to other roundtrips I had to the USA)

Makes no difference at POE; if you have a round-trip/return/2-way ticket, though, remember to cancel the return trip or keep rescheduling it in the future so USCIS never thinks you've left the country without AP or a green card.

But when I never check in for my flight they will know that I wasn´t flying or?

There have been reports of people having issues during AOS if they failed to cancel the return leg. What airlines report should be based on who actually gets on a flight, not who bought a ticket, but this has caused problems in the past.

My (now) husband flew here on a one-way ticket from New Zealand.  No issues.

So you're moving here but have never been here to visit, and don't plan to until you have the visa?

Everyone buys a round trip and shreds the return

Make sure you cancel the flight

I'd buy the R/T and just cancel or not show up for the return flight. Only the airline will be upset with you for gaming their system. But up to you.
