Weird stuff here so take a listen for me.

I have a health insurance through healthcare.gov and I didn't have any SSN to put in for my Husband so I skipped that part because it's optional. Also, I pay for this so there isn't much for him to do anything and he hasn't used it yet, being a happy lucky life partner.

Now, I get a letter in the mail from Cigna (my current health insurer I got through healthcare.gov) stating they want me to give them my Husband SSN. They also mentioned this in the letter which is strange because I can't find anywhere where it says TN requires health insurance as of right now or pay a penalty, or why does it even exactly matter for health insurance to have SSN when they aren't paying us other than using it for that 'tax purpose' when I'm [Female-Wife] in charge?

Here is the letter:

  Quote

Dear NAME,
We are writing to you in order to obtain the social security number(s) for you and/or a family member.

Why is Cigna Required to Have This Information?

in 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), also called the Affordable Care  Act, became a law. The law requires that most U.S.  citizens and legal residents have health insurance coverage or pay a penalty. The government calls this having Minimum Essential Coverage, which you may also know as "the individual Mandate." Cigna is required under the law to report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whether you have health coverage and your Social Security number is required by the government for the report.   Unfortunately, we currently do not have a Social Security number for you and/or a family member on file.
...
What happens if I do NOT give Cigna the social security number information?
If we don't have your information on file, the IRS may request additional information from you to prove you and your family have coverage and avoid the penalty.

(Another topic: Why the heck do dental/medical locally ask for it [SSN] when they really have nothing to do with it beside 'taking' the information? This is just seriously frustrating and it keep me upset over several years.)
