Hello,

My Dominican fiancée and I have had a child while waiting for an interview. There isn’t any info about our child in any of the K1 documents submitted to the Consulate because he wasn’t born. We are in the 3500’s on the waiting list so we hope to have an interview sometime this summer or early fall.

I know that everybody (even babies) needs a passport to enter the U.S. My wife isn’t coming without our son. My questions are:

Do I need to do an amendment to our documents or will the Dominican Consulate add our new child to the case during the interview?

If my fiancée has a Visa, can our baby enter the U.S. with her with only a passport (no visa)?

Since I’m a US Citizen, would it be easier and quicker for me to file an

I-130, Petition for Alien Relative?

Bottom line what do I need to do to get my son and fiancée here at the same time…..besides stuffing my son in my carry-on bag.

If the child has at least one parent that is a US citizen, then the child when born (if before the visa interview) can be claimed as a US citizen, the birth needs to be registered at the embassy and an American passport can be issued.

It will definitely be difficult if the OP is not married to the mother and the baby is not legitimated... Definitely get this process started now... Don't be surprised if a DNA test through a laboratory approved by the US Embassy in the DR is required to certify parentage...
