My husband visited recently for a month, he did get pulled into secondary but he does not have any ties to his home country (job, car, school) only had his return flight and NOA2 (which first CBP officer didn't look at, only asked why he is visiting, how long, and if he has a job etc in home country), and they put him in secondary when he said he does not have a job in Denmark. The second officer in secondary asked him same questions (why are you visiting "visiting wife" how long "5 weeks", etc) then when he mentioned to the second officer that we are going through the visa process and that he will have his interview in Sweden they let him through. But that was as much trouble as we had and they still let him in the US to visit

I just returned from my fifth visit (🙈) since we started the process (our PD was Sept 2018, I visited in September, December, May, September, November) — each time I got asked why I didn’t have papers yet if I was married to a US citizen — the past two trips the officers asked me, multiple times, if we were „doing it the right way“, or if I was visiting to stay. The September trip the officer asked multiple times and had me short-summarize what we were doing to do it right, I’m assuming to make sure we were really filing for a visa, and gave me advise on timing (medical expiration ha). This last trip, I was also asked what my job was, what company I worked for, and in what city - and whether it was an „ongoing employment“. Asked how my hubbs and I met, what he did for work, what the longterm goal for us was (again, the visa question), and if our visa process was ongoing/what stage we were in. Did not have to go into secondary — all those questions were asked by the same officer.

While the questions seem to have increased, I haven’t really had any issues on any of the trips (German citizen).

I wouldnt say a trouble but a hassle. At first when i use the electronic passport control upon printing my paper i saw a big x mark on it. I said oh ok. When i am near the exit area another officer caught my attention and informed me that i need to get into the other line to see an immigration officer. Lots of questioned were i asked which i know still basic. Whenever I travel anywhere i made sure im equipped with whatever i think i needed included no objection letter from my company stating that i still work on them yadahh yadahhh.

Thanks! The last time we traveled it was actually my hubby who got the X not me, hahah. But I have been wondering, what if its me this time with an X.

I have all the papers with me, and what makes it easier is that my man lives with me in the Netherlands.
I dont know why i am always so nervous to travel, I would just hate it if we would jeopardize our visa over something super small.

Thats what i thought whats that big x on the paper. My guess is definitely whoever have a pending application will appear right away on the immig system and thats what will alert the officers / staff who still needs to see a officer.

Did you apply for Visitor visa? Was it after your i130 application?

I am thinking of apply Visitor visa for my wife since the process is so long. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Germany is part of the visa waiver program, so I was only on ESTA - only stayed 1-2 weeks each time.

Visiting is probably an option only for people who have visit visa's already or are citizen's of a visa waiver country .

Notice the flags of the people who said it worked for them 🙂

Unfortunately the chances of receiving a visitor visa with a pending I130 application is slim to none, as in order to get a visitor visa you have to prove you have no immigration intent, which if you have a pending I130 is obviously not the case. Like SaeedA said, really only possible to visit the US during the process if you have an ESTA or already obtained a visitor visa prior to beginning the CR1 process. Your best bet is to go and visit your wife in India instead as she likely won't receive a visitor visa to come here during the process

I have visited my husband many times and the only time I had an X on the paper was the first time i ever visited the US (no pending application). And since then even with a pending application I have never gotten an X again so it must be some other reason, probably because of the answer one of the questions they ask on the kiosks and the first time you ever visit so they get your fingerprints
