I did a lot of research on medicals and found that there are doctors that ask for a small copay fee as less as $20-30 and bill the rest as annual physicals to your insurance(this was suggested by another VJ member here too). I’m going to one such dr for mine. Hope you too and others find such an arrangement which would ensure you don’t have to pay outta pocket.

This is super helpful information. I’ll look into it, for sure. Thank you! 🙏

Just make sure that you have an updated vaccination record with you.

I don’t have anything, that’s why I’m worried. What the 60 days vs. 2 year validity rule? I already submitted my I-485 application back in aug 2017 and have approval. I’ve not received the courtesy letter and transfer notice yet.would I be able to get everything done in time if I were to get an interview notice? Possible to get the medical clearance within 2 days?

The only notice I received after VAWA approval was courtesy letter and then Interview letter. No online notification at all. I had to rush and get medical completed before the interview. My medical was 475.00.

They changed the rules for medical. You can only have your medical as early as 60 days prior to submission but it is good for two years after submission.

Thanks. I did not receive any notices or even get online updates after approval. It’s been 5 months. But, since it’s NY, I’m not complaining yet. When you say rushed to submit the medical exam, how long did it take? It takes time to even get a appt with some doctors. That’s why I want to have some doctors names on hand. Also, since you said it valid up to 2 years after and my I-485 application was submitted in aug 2017, do you think if I do the medical now and keep it on hold, I can be prepared in advance?  I don’t have immunization records etc. I hear they are processing cases from Aug-October 2017 in NYC, so, I wanted to plan ahead rather than be caught off guard at the last minute etc...My interview will probably take place in the winter time so, there’s that too ❄️ 🥶

Remember that not everyone gets courtesy letter..some just go from approval to interview scheduled...with USCIS, you can expect anything! My greatest concern now is to be surprised unprepared with interview letter..I really want to have enough time to update my medicals! When where you approved again? Don't stress too much about CL..you'll be surprised!

The 60 days and 2yrs validity for i693..is simply that the report will only be valid 60 days from the day the civil surgeon signs the document at the time it is submitted to USCIS! While in the hands of USCIS it is valid for 2yrs!

In that case, since the document will be valid for up to 2 years and taking into consideration the fact that I filed my case in August 2017 and I was approved in March 2019, I’ll take a chance and schedule my appt for Nov 2019. This way I would have some leeway in case the interview time takes longer and my medical exam paperwork would be current till November 2021.
