friends need guidance. do i need to submit my divorce petition, my answer and divorce decree (pending without judge signature) to VSC? it is a simple divorce filed by my wife after 1 and a half year of our separation. i did not want to file because she is the one who first made my life hell and cancelled her petition. she filed it on June 6 and after 2 weeks i received decree from her attorney to sign and i sent it back to the attorney within a week. it is a simple divorce no property no children involved

Vermont doesn't require you to be divorced to qualify or to be considered for the VAWA benefits...you'll probably need it for your i485 interview..I think...just my opinion!

I sent a certified copy of my divorce decree to VSC when it was final signed by the judge. If it is still pending and not final yet, then you don't have to send it.

So I just stepped outside my house to get my mails..behold a letter from Commissioner of jurors office saying I am required by law to fill out the form for a prospective juror service..and that my name was selected at random!!!😳 ok my question is..who's gonna tell these people that I'm not a U.S. citizen..and I'm just a poor country girl waiting to get her interview in peace!😭😭😥😥 I prefer to be left alone! I don't wanna be a juror!!! HELP!!!😞

I received this letter before. When you answer the form online that are required they ask you if you are American citizen and then you are automatically off

@HopeHope__ I honestly feel like firing my attorney. He hasn’t done a thing to help me since I retained him a month ago. I gave him my affidavit to review two weeks ago and not a feedback upto now. Last he told me was it’s my story, that he can’t tell me to modify my story. I honestly feel like I’m doing this on my own after putting myself in debt to pay him.

I would not trust in attorneys that charge high fees to file vawa cases for obvious reasons. ( this is my personal opinion) And of course your attorney can make a huge difference guiding you on how to write an Affidavit or revising it. I have a friend that almost had her case denied because her attorney didn’t revise her Affidavit and didn’t send any proofs of bona fide marriage. I emailed her RFE to my attorney and I asked her to take her case. She went to an interview with my attorney and based on her answers my attorney drafted a new Affidavit (her first affidavit was awful - I don’t know how her previous attorney could submit that). She also asked her Affidavits from friends and family and revised everything. She recommended her to a entity specialized in Domestic Violence and she could get a good evaluation there after a couple therapy sessions. She revised everything and submitted proofs of bona fide marriage ( basically she filed a new vawa). A good attorney makes total diference. Look for attorneys that have experience. The good ones won’t charge a high fee. A lot of them work pro bono or in institutions specialized in DV. ( see Sandra’s example - she helps a lot of people here and answer questions for free ). Check if there is Catholic Charities Legal Services where you live. They work pro bono or for a very low fee.

Where is Sandra’s example? I attended an immigration forum that my shelter case manager sent me to. There I talked to a catholic charities attorney that’s pro bono. The bad thing is, I already retained this attorney who I think is too busy to review my affidavit.

You just call and say the truth or do not signed it. You Can Not say you are a USC or you will loose your application for Vawa.

I took 4 months to finish my case but I was gathering evidence for over a year. When I decided to file my vawa I had to be very patient because my attorney was very busy. She had too many vawa cases and was hard to schedule appointments with her. She is from CCLS and I used to work there so I know they are very busy but also they have a lot experience and they really care! So I took my decision and wait a little longer to file with her but I know worth it. I think your case is totally different because when your attorney say he won’t change your affidavit because it’s your own words it’s a big red flag. It’s my understanding that it is a second huge red flag you pay a high fee to file vawa.I would definitely not continue with your attorney.
