It is smarter to go into trade jobs than go into debt for a college degree hoping that when you come out the other end the job for your degree is still available and not outsourced or shipped overseas.

Out of high school unskilled labor market is dominated by cheap undocumented labor. There is no easy pathway to pay for your own college. I agree that trade jobs are superior to colleges now no matter how you look at it but long term security of those jobs are not good because cheap labor for those trade jobs keep pouring in through undocumented immigration.  

You know, I agree with you that the price of college is unsustainably high now, and it was when I graduated back in 2007. However, as the recipient of a "useless degree" (BA, Art History), I also know the value of a solid liberal arts education. It has made me a person with greater curiosity about the world, rounded out corners of my knowledge, made me study topics outside of my comfort zone. Personal circumstances (a generous husband, now ex-husband) allowed me to pay off my substantial student loans, but I would have gladly shouldered that cost had it been down to me to pay it off, even if it was "useless" and not a STEM subject or a trade education.

Well, that's true, but there are many young people who are putting off getting married and having children indefinitely because they just can't afford these things given their loan debt. I was lucky to have that burden lifted, but for most young people it just isn't feasible.

If one wants to go into a trade job, they should go. If one wants to attend university, they should find a way. In either case, I have no patience for whining and excuses about how they cannot make their dreams happen.

Thank you for the service. Joining the military today is not wise now especially as the there is another regime change war against Iran on the horizon to defend a middle eastern ally.

You wanted out of debt, and you found a way. If you can make something happen, then a poor person can find a way to go to university. But it doesn't happen by making excuses, and unfortunately people on the left like AOC and Sanders enable that kind of behavior. It's sickening.

Completely immaterial. Everyone's circumstances are different. You take stock of your own individual situation, you leverage your advantages, and you overcome your obstacles. It takes planning and fortitude. Excuses and self-pity do not help.

Nobody is making excuses or supporting communists like Bernie or AOC. It is a fact that it is significantly more difficult for millenials to have job security and pay for college on their own than it was for their baby boomer parents. But they cannot accept this reality and instead like to roleplay of how they hiked 6 million light years to school and worked part time jobs to pay for college when part time wages today will take decades to pay off college debt.

Joining the military is one way, the trade off in joining the military is that you can get called to fight, its an unknown. Life is not a yellow brick road, there are choices you-make and there are detours to your plans.
