We've been looking ahead a few years for my son and when he will be eligible to apply for citizenship. My window to apply for citizenship will open up mid-December 2021. I'm the K1, now conditional green card holder since March 2019. My son is the K2, now conditional green card holder also since March 2019. Due to USCIS mistakes during the petition and AOS stage our case was delayed by 3 months. My son will turn 18 in November 2021, a few weeks before I am eligible to apply for citizenship. Are we correct in thinking that he will therefore need to apply for citizenship independently of my status, i.e. after 5 years of his legal permanent resident status?
