Only once you have your MTL#, and be sure to select IMMIGRANT visa from the drop-down.

Packet 3 specifically says to provide the DS-160 for a non-immigrant Visa. We need to figure this out or people are going to be messed up really badly here...

I'm getting this info from packet 3. https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/Packet3Instructions-K1.pdf

See number 1.

I submitted that to the embassy and they scheduled our interview without issues. I'm pretty sure they would not have done that if we requested the wrong one?

The K1 visa is considered a non-immigrant Visa with immigration intent per US Department of Statehttps://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html

I don't believe that statement is correct. Please tell me where you got that info from? An immigrant Visa would get a Green card upon entry. That is the not the case with K1 as you have to file for AOS.

Take a deep breath, you're fine. The K1 is filed and everything is completed as a non-immigrant visa. This is about tracking the case on the CEAC website.

From notes provided here on VisaJourney:

"As a K1, when checking your case online at CEAC.state.gov you must
select "immigrant visa" as it is treated as such even though it is a "non-immigrant visa".
Technically the K-1 is a non-immigrant visa with intent to immigrate, but it is treated like an
immigrant visa because of the AOS. It is kind of a ba$tard. Non-immigrant case treated like an
immigrant case. The K-1 on its own is a single entry, with a short time limited visa that expires
within 90 days after POE. That is why it is a non-immigrant visa treated like an immigrant visa."

Oh, sorry your post was in regards to tracking. My apologies. Lol :) hopefully this will help someone else out reading it though just in case.

No worries, this whole process is stupidly confusing at times and tends to cause panic more often than I'd like. I'm sure others have had the same concern!

Oooh yes I was actually a bit confused looking for "immigrant" in a drop down menu - the only drop down menu I saw was when I was selecting "Purpose of Trip," and I chose "Fiance or Spouse of US Citizen." So thanks for the clarification. Everything gets so blurred together when I look at it all the time haha.

DS-160 is for Non-Immigrant

DS-260 is for Immigrant

K1 is Non-Immigrant Visa but is treated as Immigrant in some ways (like searching on CEAC), because of the upcoming nuptials. Very confusing for everyone... but it is how it is, unfortunately.

Hello,

I (petitioner) filed for my Canadian fiancé yesterday. It will be at the lockbox in Dallas by tomorrow. Does anyone know what the current wait time could be for the NOA2?

It varies! Ours took just under 4 months.

Finally got a chance to call NVC and our case number has been assigned and it’s getting shipped out today, yay!

I think I remember something about being able to decipher when the NVC received our case by our particular case number, does anyone have that formula handy? Just curious...

First 3 letters is the consulate abbreviation

Next 4 numbers is the year of issuance

Next 3 numbers is the numerical date from Jan.1 + 500 that when it was assigned a case number

Final 3 numbers is the numerical order it was filed into NVC for that day.

For those who have completed the DS-160, did you get your photo taken at a passport place or did you take it yourself? If I got them taken at a photo place, could I use the same pictures for the interview and/or medical as well? Thanks 🙂

Yeah. :) You apply for nonimmigrant visa when filing the DS-160 but to check the status of it you have to go back and check under immigrant Visa.
