I try to be the fun, edgy, professional looking nurse. My hair is usually short and spikey although I'm TRYING to do something new to it now. II do have quite a few ear piercings which has never been a problem and I have to keep my tattoos covered, except on casual Fridays. I want a nose piercing, but according to the manual we can't. This rule actually came about when the doctors daughter worked at the office and she had this huge bull ring thing hanging from her nose. She's also the one that made the no visible tattoos rule come around too.

Part of my code of ethics is being unobtrusive and that includes dress. I usually wear suits or a skirt/trousers with a nice shirt or sweater. I was never one for wearing big jewelry or bright colors anyway (no matter where I am, I tend to wear blues, greens, deep reds, browns, and blacks, with occasional pastels), so while I do have to dress a certain way, the way I dress normally coincides fairly well with it (I mean, the things I wear to work I would mostly wear anyway, and I don't have many clothes that I can't wear to work, and the ones I can't, I just wear outside work).

We do have casual Fridays and if I don't have any assignments that day (which has happened, oh, twice in the year and a half I've been here) I wear jeans with a nice shirt or sweater, but bring a spare pair of dress pants in case something comes up. (The rule is, you can wear jeans and sneakers on casual Friday if you're going to stay 'behind the scenes').

Alex and Stacy...ditto, exactly. For me, I think it's my weight issue mostly. I have some cute clothes, and a few professional-looking ones, but with the extra weight I always feel frumpy, even if I've been complimented. ...

I feel the same way usually. I really don't like tucking in a shirt to anything, and my ####### is whale-sized at this point so I like going for long empire-wasted tops in my personal wardrobe these days, but that never looks very professional. There is nothing that adequately covers up what I'm looking to cover up that loooks really sharp and professional. Also, I like skirts but the ones that look good in an office show a lot of leg. Seriously, where is my burqa? I'd be into it.

Last week I was talking to a guy about a summer job at the airport (my favorite place for summer work) and when the guy asked me if I had any questions, I said, "do we have to tuck in our shirts?" hehehehe... I really really won't do it. The guy was so confused, and told me everyone had to tuck in their blue polo shirt into their black dress pants. I feel fortunate that the job required me to work through September (which I can't do) because I don't think I could have let myself turn down a job for vanity. :P

I’d have to say that my job does affect my personal style, but then again, I like to dress somewhat conservative. When I started working back in the day at an accounting firm, we had a very strict dress code, no sleeveless tops, no skirts without pantyhose and no sandals. Then along came the business casual dress code and things loosened up a little bit (you could wear sandals, but no skirts w/o pantyhose). I worked there for 4 years, wore a lot of suits, blazers and long sleeved shirts, closed toes shoes and half my salary went on panty hoses which I would tear on almost a daily basis (I am such a klutz sometimes).

Then I went to work for a large company that didn’t have dress code, some people (salaried employees) wore a shirt with the company logo and jeans, which I found fine, but some people apparently had never heard of a thing called dress code, and when I first started to work there, I lived shocked at the tube tops, and mini skirts and sandals. After a while I got used to it, and I started using sandals, but always kept my wardrobe somewhat on the professional side, I tended to business casual (khakis, nice shirts or sweaters, skirts – sans hose).

In my actual job, people do not dress up too much, however, as an auditor, I have to talk to people a lot, and dressing professionally makes me feel confident to approach people. It’s odd how when I am not comfortable with what I’m wearing, I frankly don’t want to be seen… :)

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
