My wife is given a date and time to appear at out USCIS office.

Show at 0755, no sooner than 30 mins.prior to that time. She will be tested on knowledge of the US, reading , writing, speaking English. She needs to take marriage cert., passport, spouse birth cert, green card, etc.

Is this part of the process leading to taking the oath? Or is the oat given on this day?

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

West Palm Beach

I curious about the process for the reason- should we plan on having the oath and celebrating on that day?

they also mentioned “the proceeding will take at least 2 hours”

This is part of the process for the N400 interview.

The oath will probably be done at a later date (once the N400 is approved, she'll receive a letter regarding the oath).  If she does happen to get a same-day oath ceremony, which happens still but is not as common an occurrence, consider yourselves lucky. :)

Do not be overly disappointed if she walks out of the interview with a "decision cannot be made at this time"---that's perfectly normal too.

They want her to show up at a certain time, however that doesn't mean the interview will take place at that exact time.  Showing up early will give her time to go through security, etc. before the interview takes place.

For mine, we showed up at 8am per the letter...actual interview didn't take place until around 2 hours later.

Ok thank you. So far we have nailed all the paper work, forms, etc. we are taking this appointment to be more boxes checked before the Oath Day.

The interview is a requirement for the N400, so don't overly stress out about getting an appointment for one :)

Has she started studying for the Civics test?  She will need to pass that for approval as well.

We are not stressed at all. She knows the study book inside out plus all the other State, County and city political info.

she keeps reviewing , not to get rusty. Kind of anxious, like everyone else, to get this over.

Just remind her to relax, and to breathe.

In my personal view, the IOs are there to help one become a citizen...not there to just look for any reason to deny a person.

Go in with that mindset, and she'll be fine.

*that being said, I will admit that the night before my appointment I still had a complete meltdown, crying and all. :D

But it was more nerves over my past history than anything else.

I agree as you said:  IO usually takes half full glass approach, they like your to pass citizen test and become a citizen , they know everybody has gone through a lot so far in their immigration journey  and they have all your information about you by now.

and obviously as long as it is not done, it will be a nagging thought in applicants mind.

they only ask a few questions

if she answers 1st set of 6 right,  that is all the CO will ask

then she will be given an English sentence to write out

and some questions pertaining to English language (American style)

nothing to stress over if she has been studying the guides from USCIS as you say
