my wife arrived here from n. ireland on a cr-1 four months ago, and has yet to receive her permanent resident card. she just has her passport with the temporary i-551 inside it. we have a trip to paris planned for the middle of this month, and now someone told us that without the hard copy of the permanent resident card she won't be able to get back into the usa because what she has now was only good for that one first entry. is this true? we can't find anything on the official website about this restriction at all. the cr-1 is supposed to be good for multiple re-entries. the temporary i-551 says right on it that it's good for a year, and the lady we just talked to at uscis just said it can take up to a full year to get the permanent resident card. i don't even know what to ask you folks, other than 'WHY?!' this really sucks. please help us understand.

She will be allowed back into the USA, the I-551 stamp makes the passport into a temp Green-Card allowing travel out of the country.

The CR-1 is a single entry visa, it is the I-551 stamp allows re-entries.
