Hello

I had my interview today and got verbal approval, but after 3 hours I got an email to fill out a DS-5535 form

Is that a bad sign ?

Not a bad sign.

Its better you fill it out as soon as you can and give yourself some few months to get your visa.

I had to wait for 4 months after my interview to get my visa.I filled one too.

Not necessarily a bad sign no, but as stated in the post above: be prepared for some extra time.

Your status will be  Administrative Processing and there is no set time line for that. Could be days, weeks, months..

Approval is not official until the status changes to "Issued"........the form means you will likely face an extended administrative processing time.

I suggest you make sure you get an actual confirmation that they received your emailed ds-5535if you have not already. My fiancé had the same situation as you for getting approved then received ds-5535 a few hours later. He emailed it shortly after but we only got a generic email back. After several weeks they sent his passport back and another email requesting ds-5535. He sent again and actually got a personal response that they received it.

just a thought!

Any specific reason you think for ds5535? Did you have travel or employment history? Male applicant?
