Bangkok interview procedure

I'm a tad confused as to what we need to do. The NVC forwarded our petition to BKK last week, and we are waiting for the Embassy to mail out the Packet 3 forms.

I have heard some conflicting information about what happens next:

So we mail the Packet 3 forms in ASAP, then the Embassy awards us an interview date?

Or does to Embassy award us an interview date right away and we bring the Packet 3 forms with us?

If the former, can we simply print out the documents and pre-emptively mail them in (or hand them in) labeled with the BNK#?

If we can get the I-130 passed on before the interview, can we subsitute the CR1 interview for the K3 interview?

Your absence runs through me like a needle

Portlander,

Your wife needs to submit DS-230-I, the signed statement of readiness for interview, a photocopy of the ID page of her passport, and 2 visa photos in order to be scheduled for an interview.

If she submits these things prior to the IV Unit receiving the approved petition from the NVC they will be ignored and possibly lost since the IV Unit will have no idea why she is submitting them.

It can sometimes take as much as 4-5 weeks from the time the approved petition leaves the NVC until the IV Unit has received the petition and has created a case file.

you need to complete the "checklist for packet 3" as soon as you return the checklist and the embassy receives it you will get notice for your interview.

what we did was as soon as we were sure the embassy had our petition we prepared packet 3 and returned it via EMS right away it took about 2 weeks before our interview date got posted on the website. i know some people sent back packet 3 (downloaded from the website) before their copy arrived which should be fine since you have most of the info for the forms available based on other forms you have already submitted. just get your medical done etc.

hope that answers your questions! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
