Experience with Inquiry after Processing Times?

Hello everyone,

231 days since my AoS/EAD/AP's NOA1 now and no sign of EAD/AP. In 2 weeks I will be able to make an inquiry. I hope to get it before that, but just trying to get prepared with the inquiry process. Does anyone have experience with that?

Is it better to make an inquiry via phone or online? How long does it take from the inquiry to receive answer or better the EAD/AP?

I have a bit of situation: I have a booked flight to my country at the end of August. I know I shouldn't have bought it without the EAD/AP in hand, but I bought it when the processing times were still 5-7months so I didn't think that I wouldn't have it after 8months +. I guess loosing those tickets cannot represent as a financial loss to maybe expedite at least the AP?

Thank you.

Have a great day

p.s. I am adjusting from K1 marriage. So my EAD/AP is being processed at the National Benefits Center.

Not speaking from experience with this in particular but I would phone and ask to speak to level 2 (tier 2? I’ve seen them referred to as both) officer. I hope you get it soon. This shouldn’t be happening.

Here’s an interesting and also infuriating article about what’s going on:

Online inquiries are futile

YMMV

No........you would need emergency travel authorization........and a valid reason

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I don't the inquiry will result in any more information than you already have.

No, make the inquiry as soon as you’re out of processing times. Right now I think we’re still on November 18th as their inquiry date. I think you will probably get your approval within the next two weeks though.

I was in a similar situation last year. Applied for AOS/EAD/AP in November 2017 when the estimated time frame was only 3 months. I was expecting to have it by March 2018. March rolled around and no sign of my EAD/AP. I had also planned a wedding celebration for back home (which I know wasn't the brightest idea without having documents in hand) at the end of June 2018. As time ticked by and I was outside the estimated time, I did a couple of online queries and received no response, so I booked an info pass appointment and explained my situation.

The officer at my appointment was helpful and was able to look into my case and could see that it had recently been 'touched' and had been worked on. Based on that he expected me to receive it within 4 weeks. He also made it clear that having flights booked and a wedding celebration planned were not acceptable reasons for my case to be expedited.  4 weeks rolled by with still no sign and my wedding celebration fast approaching, so I scheduled another info-pass appointment. Luckily fate would have it my appointment was with the same person, who was surprised that I still hadn't received it.

He made some calls and put in a request to the office dealing with my case to see if it could be looked at ASAP. He said there was nothing more he could do, but said he would keep chasing up. A couple of weeks later, and around 3 weeks before I was due to leave for my wedding celebration, I received notification that it had been approved. I'm not sure if it was due to my infopass appointments and the actions the officer took on my behalf, or if my case happened to finally came to the front of the line. But scheduling an infopass appointment may be a good idea for you at this stage (that's if the rules for scheduling an infopass appointment haven't changed since last year).

So sorry 😪I only have experience from k1 when we got outside of the normal processing time. We inquired through the online form and my then fiancé got a letter in the mail two weeks later saying that they are experiencing a backlog and that we'll hear back within 15 days. We called after 15 days passed and they told us it takes 40 days for them to get back to us. At the end, we got approved on a day 35 since we received the letter.  🤯

Thank you for sharing your experience. This is really helpful.

Apparently my Field Office still accept INFO pass appointment for information request. But in two weeks they will not anymore. So I guess I have a small time window and I can try.

Thank you very much.

I guess being out the processing times sucks and it is still a waiting game.

That message was posted about a week ago. For the few days that are left, the appointment slots are already booked.

So is it useless even to look at it? Is it impossible for an appointment to open up?
