Well, if we all liked the same places to live it would be rather crowded. Me? I like my little Midwestern town, I adore it and I came from London - there's a huge difference there.

I just appreciate that both places are hugely different and that's that.

HA's chip on her shoulder prevents her from seeing that all I was doing was marveling at how different, different places are. And pointing out how useless "national averages" are in a nation with such variance.

And btw... I don't hate Texas, my Wikipedia entry notwithstanding.

Sure, it would be crowded. I say I wouldn't want to live in New York but I don't say why. I could, but I don't. I do call Los Angeles an armpit, but I'm far from the only one. It IS an armpit; every time I've been there, I've gotten sick with respiratory infections from the pollution. I think I've earned the right to diss it.

I wouldn't live in a small Midwestern town, but I don't diss them or the people who DO choose to live there.

What bothers me is how people just sh!t all over Texas when they've barely ever seen it; I bet a lot of them have never even visited it. It's just ignorant. If a Texan disses Texas, I'll disagree with what they say but at least they know what they're talking about.

I guess that's why five of the US's fastest-growing counties are in Texas, Texas is being flooded with northern carpetbaggers seeking jobs and salaries that are high relative to the cost of living, and three of the largest cities in America are in Texas (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio).

We're coming down there until we turn Dallas into Hoboken and Austin into Soho. Where you gonna go, hayseed? :P

j/k.

Yeah...I'm such a hayseed that I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood (people never think we have Jewish people in Texas) in one of America's largest and wealthiest cities, attended school with children from around the world, don't know how to line dance or two-step, and I've never owned a pair of cowboy boots in my life. Yeah, I'm a real sh!tkicker.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! My sister-in-law was living in NYC on 9/11. After the second month of not being allowed into her apartment because of the damage from the collapse of the WTC, she basically said "#### this sh!t" and came home to Texas. She can't stand New York now. I can sort of understand her reasons.

i have a love/hate relationship with nyc. there really is no city like it..and imho- no city better in america! but its not for people who can't handle stress, crowds, or diversity well.... the nightlife, culture, diversity, activities, architecture, etc can't be beat. but i can definitely understand why some people would hate it. when i lived in london and walked down any high street during a busy season i wanted to punch and shove people i was so stressed and annoyed!

when i want to buy things and i have to put things back because i would never be able to carry it home...that makes me miss california. life is definitely much more convienient outside of nyc!
