Applied for N-400 Selective Service question

Hi all,

I applied for my N-400 this July online and I answered no to the question if I was registered to Selective services since I am 36 years old now and at the time when I was 26 I wasn’t permanent resident. Going through all the forums and saw a lot of people are concerned about that. So I went to the SSS website and I verified with my name and SSN- I was registered and I never even knew about it. How this would happen, who would register me? I did print out the verification letter just in case. Even more bizarre thing is that i was registered on a date before I was even in the USA, I wasn’t even here when the registration was done. So my question is, should I mention this to my interview when it comes or I shouldn’t? As far as I remember I always answered NO to being registered to SSS on all my immigration applications like 485, 751 etc and never was an issue, all approved and never been questioned about it. I am just worried now that I didn’t know I was registered and I clicked NO on the N-400 application.

Please advise if you have similar issue.

Thank you!

You can correct this at your interview. Bring a copy of that SSS printout with you.

You were likely registered by DoS if you entered on an immigrant visa, or USCIS if you obtained your green card through AoS

My DS was approved from my country in April 2005 and in May 2005 I was in US. The SSS letter says I was registered on 1/18/2005 :) so weird.

So out of curiosity I just checked if I was registered for selective service and turns out I was back in 2003. I don't remember ever registering for it. I also put "NO" on all questions related to selective service on my all immigration forms. I guess I'll just take printout of page with selective service number during interview and if they mention anything about selective service I'll tell them I found the record online. It's so strange.

That’s how I found out as well when reading all these posts and decided to check on their website. I think i will give them the print out right away on the interview and will explain that I wasn’t even aware I was registered. Better tell them cuz I read people get RFE after interview to explain why while you going through final approval. You don’t want delaying your process for this piece of paper.

Thanks for recommendation. Will try that. When is your interview? Please do share your experience after your interview. Mine is on Aug 12.
