During  citizenship interview

1. Do I have to answer the civic questions as is in the study guide.

If I forget not an important "word"  would my answer treated as incorrect.

for example for the following question can I answer "zoning and land use"

       42. Under our Constitution, some powers belong to the states. What is one power of the states?
             • provide schooling and education
             • provide protection (police)
             • provide safety (fire departments)
             • give a driver’s license
            • approve zoning and land use

2. Do I have to tell all the answers to a question when there are multiple answers in the study guide

for example

         16. Who makes federal laws?
                 • Congress
                 • Senate and House (of Representatives)
                 • (U.S. or national) legislature

incomplete answer is wrong so you need to say the whole sentence

if the question is: 'who can vote?' It has to be '18 years old AND older'. I remember someone here in VJ aswered '18 yrs old' and the IO said wrong.

I seriously doubt that. If it's within the ballpark, most officers will accept the answer as valid. At least mine did.

And hey, you only need 6/10 correct.

I would rather answer in complete sentence than incomplete because you don't know what kind of officer you will deal with. Also, answering of questions on the civic test is also the way of the officer to asses your communication skills orally.

And yes I know that you only need 6 correct answer out of 10 because I'm done with this process. LOL!

Some officers will not even accept the answer exactly from the official USCIS guide.

I was asked "What did the declaration of independence do"... I answered "Declared our independence from Great Britain" exactly as per the study material

The office didn't like this answer and asked "Whose independence?"

I clarified Americans' independence (Then she added American people's independence is what she wanted to hear)!

My answer was however, not marked as wrong in the end so all good.

Technically American people before Independence were Native Americans and  "American people" did not exist before independence

I think the correct answer is the the people of the 13 British colonies in North America. :)
