What was the reason for the expedite?

I hope someone has better answers for you than I do, I am not sure how this would work at the consulate in Ghana.

Good luck

My wife might have surgery right after delivery our first child and her doctor gave her letter to that effect which has been sent to the embassy before they approved my request

The only thing you can do is to contact the consulate for further instructions.  There is no specific time for expedited cases to be processed......

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Unfortunately, they hold all the cards here......

Expedite doesn't mean immediate approval, nothing is fast with US immigration.  It sounds like you are at the final stage of the process if you asked the embassy abroad for an expedite, your file was already at the embassy in Ghana?  Was your interview scheduled by NVC?  If so, an expedite is not going to help much, just go to the scheduled interview as instructed by the embassy.  Good luck!  I hope you get a visa before your wife delivers the baby, but there are no guarantees that this will happen.  Hopefully she has other family members nearby who can support her if you aren't there.
