I'm getting so frustrated with this last form. It all started when I called the automated voice system at NVC after sending in our I-864 package and found out that we were getting RFE'd. Luckily, I found out from some of you that it was not really an "RFE" per se, but it was a normal voice message that happens after you send your I-864 in, and they are about to generate your DS-230 package.

So the voice answering system says that they mailed out a letter which describes what info we are missing. We received that already, but assumed that we are still waiting for the actual DS-230 info, so for about 2 weeks now, we've been waiting on this mysterious package to arrive in the mail.

However, this checklist that we have already received is titled something to the effect of "Missing Document Checklist",(I can't describe it better than that, since my husband is the agent, and I've been the one doing all the visa/immigration work, so I'm stuck trying to picture the letter he has while he reads it over the phone.) It does have a barcode with it, so my question is are we supposed to send the DS-230 in with this, or are we still waiting on something else to come in the mail? I've tried calling NVC but they are closed for the weekend, and it does sound like they have mailed something else to us from what they've said over the phone, but I can't see whatever it was taking longer than 2 weeks to arrive so I'm starting to think we've had the package all this time, and just thought it was the RFE letter.

I assume since it has a barcode on this letter, I am able now to send off the DS-230 and its supporting evidence, but am afraid to send it in early in case I am still supposed to wait for some kind of instruction package on the DS-230.

Sorry if my question is confusing, and thanks to anyone who might know what to do :help:

the automated system told me that " the NVC has reviewed the packet of forms and found information missing or incomplete." well, i called back and spoke to the cs rep and they told me that the I-864 was processed and accepted and that the automated message was referring to the DS-230, which they hadn't received. once the DS-230 is reviewed and accepted, then they will schedule an appointment. you can use james' shortcuts to generate your own cover letter with barcode, fill in the ds230 and send it with the neccesary documents. i waited for my letter because the nvc had decided to change the neccesary documents that needed to be sent for us going through bogota colombia. the letter i got from them is the same as found in the shortcuts. you can goto the state dept link to find what you need to send with the ds230, just choose your embassy from the drop down menu

Thanks for your reply. I took a look at the link you posted and found a replica of what the coversheet should look like, and emailed it to my husband, who says that is definetely not what he got in the mail.

I think I as well will just wait for it to arrive. Should be any day now, so the waiting shouldn't be too long.

Thanks again for your help

what your husband got was a checklist of what forms they are missing, in this case its the ds230. i got the same thing, it was 3 pages, the second page has "checklist letter response" on the bottom and the 3rd page says that they are still waiting for the ds230.

what you downloaded from james' shortcuts is the letter that he will be receiving in a few days, which is a letter telling you to goto the state dept link, gather the documents needed and send them with the ds230. for montreal, i hope you are aware that you have to send more than just a copy of the passport.
