The I-864P (https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p) defines the minimums for consideration. Keep in mind the household size of the sponsor (which will increase by 1 each time they add a sponsored immigrant).

The CO will make a decision on the public charge concern based upon the totality of the circumstances. There is no income level that guarantees satisfaction, but common sense is usually a pretty good predictor.

Please make sure he researches healthcare insurance and costs for the parents. Since they are retired and likely won't qualify for most public aid for at least 5 years, and likely cannot be added to their child's insurance plan, the costs can easily be over $1,000/month each. I'm not saying >$100k can't cover this, but 2 x $12k+ per year may or may not be a hardship for them...better to be aware of it now and plan for it. Healthcare costs is a consideration the CO will make in the public charge consideration.

Unfortunately, insurance availability and costs is mostly a local issue. I can find the general costs for the marketplace and private insurance my state (PA), but it could be very different in another state.

The most universal resource I can point at is http://healthcare.gov/. LPRs can qualify for the public marketplace, but may or may not qualify for any subsidies. Also, a couple states (NY & CA IIRC) have state-funded programs for Medicaid for new LPRs, which may or may not be available to them.

this is helpful

i ask as she has is diabetic and i hear insulin has gone thru the roof and all applicants should know that our prescription,  dental,  eye, and hearing aids are costly as i don't think the younger generation look into these factors
