What does "upload your passport" mean on the CGI website?

A few years back my fiancee previously filed for and was rejected for a tourism visa.

Now, she's applying for a K1 visa

Apparently, the CGI website remembers her from her previous filing even though her email address and visa details have changed because her national ID number is the same.

The CGI website instructed her to "combine" her two accounts on CGI in order to "prevent confusion".

As the first step in "combing" her CGI accounts, it is now instructing her to "upload her passport", with a "choose file" button for choosing a single image file.

However, there is no instruction as to what exactly this means? Is it supposed to be a photo/scan of her passport information page? Her passport photo? Or what?

Apologies in advance for posting if this is a dumb question. I tried to find the answer by searching for "upload your passport" on this forum, but all I could find were passing references to this step, none actually explaining what it means.

Thanks

I would imagine they want to see the information page of the passport that has the picture and passport number. I can't imagine what other information they would need. Seems that this is what they would find useful to merge the two accounts together since this has all the identifying information of your fiancee.

Submitted info page.

Apparently, we now need to wait for someone at CGI to process our "Combine" request, which means we can't pay the fee and send the P3 until then.

Technically the fee payment is not required for P3 per the consulate. The only reason I say to do it first is because that was my experience with CITIC, as they asked for it.

Try going to CITIC and explaining your situation. Tell them that you need to send back the P3 and you cannot pay the fee yet because CGI is combining your account. At the end of the day you're dealing with people (bank workers) who may be sympathetic.

I do not speak Chinese, so did not understand 100% of what my Fiancee was discussing with the CITIC bank employees, but I got the impression that they requested the fee because that is how they normally see the process performed, rather than a mandatory step that prevents them from sending info prior to seeing the fee receipt.

Since we had already paid, it was easier to just get the fee receipt than to try and explain the circumstances to the CITIC personnel. However, in your situation, I recommend just going to CITIC and explaining what's going on. If it doesn't work then you're in the same position as you are now, but at least this way you have a chance in getting the documents sent and not delaying the process further. I'm sure you're anxious to proceed as quick as possible at this point!

Let us know how it turns out!

Haha, okay. Will try CITIC and see if we can get it done without the fee receipt. Will report back results.
