He 'needs to go back where he came from and leave that office'

he U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has written specific rules that protect people, mostly immigrants, against employment discrimination on the basis of their national origin. The agency is responsible for enforcing laws that prohibit discrimination and harassment based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age and disability.

Is this the end of Harris's campaign?

Verbal equivalent of "an eye for an eye?"

Guess she figures if it's ok for the President to say it---why not her?---following his example and all since he holds the highest position in the land.

Trump afterwards stated his remark was in no way racist---seemingly the same statement will be good enough for people to accept about her remark, then.

Either way both of them are a little long in the tooth for "####### for tat", I think.

Absolutely they both are or they are both are not.

I have a feeling Trump would have said the same no matter what race the Squad were, it was not their race he objected to.

And I doubt Kamala was objecting to his race.

I assume you have an opinion as to whether this constitutes racism or not? Seems some do and some do not.

I was thinking the same thing... 😶

I'm a straight white middle class woman. I don't face any racial or ethnic barriers in my life (dad's parents were immigrants from France, and my dad's first language was French, but it was never an issue for him, never told to go home; mom's family is mixed up English/German/Irish), but my two best friends are Japanese-American and African-American respectively. We are our own "squad" -- best friends since we were all 10.

My friend who is Japanese-American has grandparents who were interned during WWII; her great-grandparents were too. Her family has been in California for over 100 years, but I heard people telling her to "go home" when we were kids. I stuck up for her as best as I could, telling bullies that she was American, and that her family had been Americans for many years, but when people look at her, all they see is Japanese, and that that means she doesn't belong. One time I went to the emergency room with her when we were out in Mammoth skiing, she'd sprained her ankle badly and we thought it was maybe a break. No one saw us for HOURS because the staff were looking for an interpreter! It was so insulting.

My other best friend (who confusingly has almost exactly the same first name as my other best friend) -- easily the smartest of the three of us -- moved from Manhattan to Burbank in fifth grade. She has told me that it was a HUGE adjustment -- there just aren't as many black people in Burbank as there are in New York (she's right), and she was subjected to the worst kind of casual and malicious racism in school. I heard her called the N word and her being told to go back to Africa. Store staff would follow us when we were shopping, or she would be asked how many drive by shootings she'd ever seen (she lived on the Upper West Side in Manhattan before moving to Burbank so... um, none?). Her brother had the cops called on him once for walking the dogs late at night in our neighborhood. This is only the tip of the iceberg, and anyway, these are not my stories to tell.

It is really, REALLY different to hear an old, rich, powerful white man tell younger women of color to go home to countries that three out of four of them are not from simply because they have a non-white background, than when a woman of color like Kamala Harris make a comment like she did. It's a retort to Trump's comment, not racism, and not meant to really mean that Trump should "go home" (which after all would be New York). After all, President Trump's mother was from Scotland, so shouldn't HE go back to Scotland and fix what's wrong there (my fiance is Scottish -- I know it is NOT a perfect place) if he can say what he said?

Sorry, but to me this looks like racism AND sexism. I know people here will disagree with me. :)

So you think Trump did it specifically because they are person’s or color?   I do think this was all calculated by Trump as the “Squad” is now the most recognized group in the Democrat Party.  Maybe folks will realize how extreme that party has become.

My husband, who is white, and I were arguing about this whole thing the other day.  I tried, in vain, to explain to him that until he's faced backlash/racism/been told something like that based on the colour of his skin---he's always going to look at it differently than I am (this instance with Trump and these congresswomen).

When I was living in Canada, I worked in security---I think I was 18 or 19 at the time?  Anyways, my partner was white-skinned, I am obviously not.  We were in the process of kicking out a (white) man who was loitering, when he turned to my partner and said "are you Canadian?"  He said yes.  Then turned to me and asked the same question.  When I responded yes, I was told by him, sneeringly,  that there's no way I was a Canadian/born in Canada based solely on the colour of my skin.  He literally then afterwards said the same words---"go back where you came from."  Being born in Canada and having lived there all my life, I can *completely* understand what it's like to  have those words said to you---to be thought automatically that you're not "from" a certain place simply because you look different.  It's offensive, it's disgusting, it's racist.

My husband said Trump is not a racist, but instead a "xenophobic".  I told him that that's just a really nice way of saying "racist".
