I had my medical today at Knightsbridge and it went very smooth :)

I arrived 20 minutes early and was asked to take a seat in the waiting room. 20 minutes later, I walked up to the reception where they checked all my documents and took copies of some of them. It was a relatively less busy day (even according to the staff) so the chest x-ray and the checks with the doctor all happened quite quickly. I'm a little squeamish with needles but the doctor was gentle that I almost didn't feel a thing.

The staff there were very nice, reassuring and easy going which made the experience even better. The person who took my x-ray said "Well, I can confirm that you are indeed human and your chest looks textbook normal." 🤣

All in all, a very positive experience.

I want to thank you alot the members in this forum and past posts. It all helped me in being as prepared as possible for the medical. This forum has been a god send! I hope all your experiences at Knightsbridge are also positive and smooth.

Onwards to the interview now!

So glad it all went well!

I was also very nervous about the needles and x-rays, but the doctor was so nice - I barely even noticed the needle. I asked the x-ray technician if everything looked okay - he said "well, I can confirm it's a chest x-ray, and that it's female!". My medical appointment was last Friday and haven't yet heard any news, so assuming all is fine.

Glad that it was a similar experience for you too!

That sounds right - I was told if I don't hear from them, just assume that is all fine :)

Good to hear positive reviews now for Knightsbridge. My experience was absolutely awful!

All the best for the next phase of your journey :)

May I ask why yours was awful?

The only negative of mine was that I was told to wait to see the nurse after seeing the doctor.. 45 minutes later and everyone else had gone home, so I went to ask the receptionist, she disappeared & I wasn't sure what was going on. Turns out I didn't need to see the nurse after all since I'd already had all my vaccinations, and probably wasted 45 minutes waiting for nothing 😂

For a start, most of the staff there were surly and some just plain rude. I was there with my then 12 year old daughter and they took us in separately. We were shunted around with almost zero eye contact and instructions barked at us.

The doctor who saw me grilled me about my weight, shaking her head and asked if I had always "been so awfully thin" to which I truthfully responded, "No. The stress of this process over the last year is the culprit." I am fairly small in build and I'd lost about 15 pounds so yeah, I was down from where I should be and probably looked terrible, thanks to the ridiculous disparities between the service centers and all the knock-on effects in our daily lives as a result.

I had made sure that all our shots were up to date and had all my paperwork and documentation with me. I sat around for a long time waiting for a nurse who insisted that I did not understand the requirements for one of the shots and told me she could give it to me then or they would not sign off my medical as complete. I told her to do what she needed to do. I could not afford another trip from Scotland down to London so there was no point arguing.  AFTER giving me the shot she was frowning at my paperwork and then coldly stated that I did in fact have all my immunizations up to date. Then after a long silence she said, "Oh well. Just make sure you leave at least six months before trying to get pregnant."

Are you kidding me? I was there for a Fiance Visa medical exam.

By this time the office was about to close and they gave me back all my documents that had been nicely organized in a complete shambles. I was sorting through it to make sure I got everything back and the woman behind the desk was telling me off for taking my time. I then spotted that they had NOT signed our vaccination records off as complete and she said they were closed and couldn't do anything about it.

I spent the next few days after I got back on the phone eventually working with the head of the practice to get it updated before they sent it off to the embassy.

Not sure what went down in my daughter's medical. My little girl did not say a word all day. Nothing. She usually never stops talking.  She just sat in spaced out silence for the next 12 hours as we traveled back.

The only thing that was worse than that whole ordeal was waiting for the visa to be issued.

I'm not sure what the wait times and circumstances are now compared to then, but it was a bit of a mess a few years ago - more so during the period we were waiting than usual - and things got so heated that Visa Journey had different threads for progress reports for filers for the two service centers because things got really ugly.  Even years later, I can't look back and say "It's over" because it will always strike a nerve with me.

It actually makes me feel better that things look like they've improved. :)

I am so sorry you had to go through that - it sounds like it was absolute nightmare. The comments they made regarding weight and pregnancy were completely uncalled for, and you would have been more than within your rights to make complaints - nothing makes it ok for medical staff to treat you like that.

They must have a new doctor now - I'm not sure if he sees everyone, but the one I saw was really young, so patient and gentle, and made the process seem like nothing even though I was so nervous beforehand (and typically terrified of doctors or anything medical-related).

I also noticed there was a feedback box in the waiting area - if anyone else reading this has a negative experience at a future medical exam, it may be worth sharing as written feedback.

It's very possible they have a new doctor now. There was more than one doctor there when I attended - that was several years ago though so things will, no doubt, have changed.  You'll also be pleased to know that once I got here, got married and ate some tacos and wedding cake, I was back to my happy, healthy self :D

On a side note, do any of you know what happened to Nich-Nick?  She was a godsend to me and many others when we went through the K1 phase and she actually texted me continuously to check on me when things were so rough. I don't see her posting on here now.
