i think one just has to show when asked that you are able to purchase the health insurance. its being asked for on a case by cae basis. Not everybody is being asked about the public charge rule at interviews. I guess we will just have to wait and see

I just went through all the next steps that needs to happen before a green card is granted after I-130 application is approved. No where did I see the need for health insurance. Can someone explain to me where that came from?

read the public charge rule thats how they are enforcing the health insurance part. There are many threads on VJ on this and how it was playing out at interviews. Mostly they targeted older immigrants with existing conditions or with sponsors who don't make enough money to satisfy them. If you make a whole lot more than the minimum the possibility of it not being an issue is higher i suspect, but then again who the hell knows?

Oh okay thanks for explaining, I think this is another unnecessary hurdle we have to jump over, they keep adding things and its frustrating.

To clarify, I have to have insurance for them paid for and ready by the time they go into the interviews?

I'm guessing with COVID these interviews won't happen for a while.

From my understanding we don’t have to purchase it by the time of the interview (since we don’t know of the outcome) but it’s a plus to have a policy/quote ready to show what we will be getting for them after the visa is approved.

Does anyone know how long the approved case can last? My mother is out of country and not gonna be back until May or June to proceed other documents. I paid the fee, and going to submit my documents. is it ok to submit mine first and her document would be submitted around May or June? Thanks all.

You do not have to submit them all at once, but NVC will not start a review until all of the documents are submitted

I think they will keep the case for 1 year after I-130 was approved.

So my parents have been approved for a while now, when exactly will NVC send me an email?

I am in the same position. After i130 approval haven't received any initial contact from NVC, so don't even know if they have it. So I called USCIS (twice to make sure to cross-reference), and got consistent response that it was forwarded to NVC only 45 days after the approval date. So who knows now how long it will take NVC to receive and process it and then get back to me with further instructions...
