I spoke to a tier 2 agent today he said our case is in extended review... my lawyer says it's extended background checks 🙄 God knows when we'll get approved.

What? They do background check for i130? Never knew that. What do they need FBI background check for? I thought they just review the application that it's complete and bonafide marriage.

Oh no I am so sorry about that. I believe its the FBI check which takes somewhat longer but again I have hardly seen any I-130 getting approved more than 10 months so fingers crossed.

Do you mind telling me how did you get intouch with a Tier 2 agent? Thanks!

Yeah that's our understanding too. Really hoping to hear the good news about clearance soon.

I called the usual customer service no. Expressed to her that I would like to speak to a tier 2 agent to figure out what's going on with my case because it's been outside normal processing time for a while and the inquiry i made was more than a month ago. Then she transferred me over to the tier 2 agent who has the ability to access case file and read comments.

Not sure but they usually do background checks for most Pakistanis, i went thru background check too that was a whole nightmare of 3 months working remotely from a different country but that was at H-1 stage. And also probably because some names raise red flags so they go thru background check most definitely (for e.g. Muhammad etc)

We got the same information yesterday for our case. So stupid

Did you have any recent date changes at all? I fear my case is under similar extended review, had 3 date changes within days of each other then nothing.

No, I requested expedite with senators / congressman, was rejected saying they needed my fingerprints for our application (i130 doesn't require my fingerprints). Spoke to a lvl 2 officer, they said it was a mistake, and she resubmitted the expedite request, then on Friday I was told the expedite request was denied because they're still waiting on our background. It is a game to them

Just had a call with USCIS and they had started a risk and fraud initiation on our petition as of yesterday. Not sure what that is about. Has anyone heard of this before?

Didn’t you ask USCIS for more details when you were already on the phone with them on what it was, what to expect, or why they were doing it?
