Hi All,

I am helping a family member fill out the I-134 Affadavit of Support for the k1 visa.. Question #38- I intend/do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person marked in part 2 (beneficiary)…   I imagine I would check off "intend" is this correct? And then do I add an addendum on what specifically he would contribute? Housing, etc..

I did some searching through the boards and couldn't find it. Any help is much appreciated! :)

Thank you

Leave this field blank. Then in the Additional Information section state “N/A -  K-1 Visa Applicant”.

Basically the “intend/do not intend” question is meant for specific support to be given. For example, if you were sponsoring someone on a student visa and planned to pay their rent and give them money for food.

Since the K-1 is marriage based, you will be providing all support since you will be married and all expenses will fall under the marital household. Therefore, this question is N/A for K-1.

Some people check “yes” and still put in the additional info. We did not check either box and had no issues. The key point being to add the additional information.

Guess there is more than one right way.  I did one I-134 for N’s K3 and another I-134 for her SB1.  Both times I checked “intend” and listed whatever basic items I could think of.

From what I’ve read, it’s not advised to select “intend” as that can be taken to mean you intend to provide only the specific expenses listed rather than all

of the expenses that come along with maintaining a marital household.

Not sure if it matters, but I’ve seen the more senior users on VJ recommend going the “N/A - K-1 Applicant” route.
