Hello all. My husband is a U.S.citizen and has been trying to apply for visa his mother who is from Pakistan. She used to have a green card before he was born but then after her husband died while she was pregnant with my husband she moved back to pakistan and had to give up her green card. now 30 years later her son who was born in U.S is applying for her citizenship. we live in US and i have a green card too. she is here on tourist visa and we were thinking of applying for adjustment of status while she is here so she didn't have to go back. now we submitted i130 and i485 together. the fees for each are $535 and $1140 respectively and $85 for biometric. now we made 3 separate cashier checks for each and submitted with the application but two weeks later we got a rejection i797c notice saying the fee is not correct for i485. can someone here guide us on what we did wrong. we have double checked all the forums and immigration guides and can't figure it out. the fees are what i mentioned so i don't know what went wrong and what we are supposed to do. any help in the right direction would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

Was each check labelled for what form? Where and how were the checks put in the package? How old is the mother?

yes each cashier check was labelled for what it was in the description. it was made out to US department of homeland security exactly like that. there were three checks. $535(i130), $1140(i485), $85(biometric). the mother is 60 years old.

Doesn't seem to make sense.  Now of course if you use the calculator it adds the biometrics fee to give one value of 1225, quite possibly they did not see the separate check for the biometrics fee.

Good Luck!

Did you get back the biometrics fee check as well? Were i485 fee and biometrics fee put together in the package? It’s possible they didn’t see or misplaced the $85 check.

yes we got the whole package back including the three checks. All the checks were paper clipped together so i don't see how they didnt see it. they returned the package with all three checks stapled together to the green i-797 notice so they would have clearly seen that there were three pieces of paper while stapling. could it be that they want one check for $ 1225 for i-485 and biometirc?

In that case, yeah just resubmit with one check for i485 n biometrics. Just in case it gets handled by another lazy lockbox staff, put checks in corresponding applications like i130 fee on top of i130 package and i485/bio fee on top of i485 package.
