Got on the scales this morning, I'm now 146 pounds. I'm still exercising too (which is amazing) Due to the fact I have PCOS I looked into insulin resistance and weight gain. On Saturday I bought some glucomannan which is a dietry fibre, but can also stabilise blood sugar levels. I also bought some Chromium GTR which is supposed to help too.

I've also some reserch regarding the glycemic index of foods and I'm trying to stick to those which are average or low on the index. Out of a 100 , instant mashed potato is well up there and on Sunday I cooked some with chicken and veggies. I felt so bloated after eating , just as I do with white bread. I'm definately staying away those kind of foods.

I've only lost about 3 pounds in 3-4 weeks. I'm basically LOOSELY following a plan my dad is doing. I'm not doing the exercise part right now because I'm recovering from some health issues. Unfortunately for me, the health issues mean that I can't have refined sugar anymore. :crying: But I CAN tolerate a LITTLE bit of organic cane juice crystals for a sweetener.

ANYWHO . . . . All I'm doing (in addition to NO refined sugar) is to eat 35 grams of fiber per day and drink lots of water. The idea is to divide your body weight in half and drink that many ounces of water. Hence a person who weighs 200 pounds would need to drink 100 ounces of water. BUT you need to get at least 64 ounces. So if you only weigh 118 pounds, you can't drink 59 ounces, you have to drink 64.

I got all excited when, instead of drinking 94 ounces, I now only have to drink 91.5. Only 15 more pounds to go until I'm back at the weight I was before 2 surgeries in 2005.

Since December (the day after Christmas to be exact), I lowered my cholesterol (the bad one) by 28 points! I did this by cutting out refined foods and saturated fats. But...I've only lost 7 pounds....in 8 months! grrrrr. Then I had surgery 2 weeks ago and ate half a Turtle cheesecake yesterday and can't excercise. SIGH. Why is my bloodwork so good and I'm still fat????

P.S. I gained the weight over two years after breaking my leg (really BAD break)...so will it take 2 years to lose the weight?

I'm motivating myself :)

There is a nice trail in the woods not to far from our place. When I have the car I drive there and run about 3 miles (well Jog+power walk+walk). When I don't have the car, like this morning, my husband drives me there and I walk back home the 1.8 miles trying to avoid dogs <_<

Got a good sweat, but I can feel I haven't been running in a while. My thighs are killing me, but hey it's for the good cause.

Whenever I think about it I try to do the women's push ups as well, I need to get some muscles in my arms for bouldering/climbing season.

No motivation here unfortunately :(

I just had a Hysterectomy 4 weeks ago and i've not to do anything strenuous so i've not been out riding my bike in about 7 weeks. I had a biopsy done 3 weeks prior to the surgery and it was having alot of cramps, but i lost my appetite still drank loads of water and now i've lost a further 10 lbs since my surgery. With 4 more weeks to go before i get the all clear from my Obgyn to resume any kind of exercise other than short walks i'm sure i'll lose more weight in the process.

No idea what my Cholesterol is...never had it checked!

I'm now down to 162 lbs, without exercising.....Just drinking plenty of water, eating loads of veggies with every meal except breakie of course ;) and i don't eat after 6pm. Although i'm sure my migraine meds (Topamax) have something to do with the weight loss as well as this is one of the side effects...but i'm not complaining :) every little helps right?

wow! i just looked up the 'couch to 5k' running plan, and im going to start it tonight!...i lost 50 pounds a few years ago (ALL of which i have gained back) by doing something very similar to this plan (except i ran 6 days a week, not 3), which encompassed me running on the treadmill in a similar walking-running-walking pattern...i just did what felt right for my body, and it worked beautifully...time to hit the gym! this time though, i think i will focus more on outdoor running rather than the treadmill (at least until winter kicks in)

i went to the mountains this weekend and it was basically nonstop excercise...riding horses (works the abs and legs), hiking (oh wow was i sore afterward), rowing on the lake, playing softball and volleyball....i felt SO great afterward and it was really a great motivator...time to get working! i wanna lose 50, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here, im going to focus on the first 5

hubby and I are trying our best to eat better and hubby has cut down on his soda consumption and has basically only been drinking diet soda... he has found a few brands that he really likes.... diet Fresca, Diet Mountain dew, Sprite Zero etc....

hubby has lost a few pounds.. the doctor wanted him to lose at least 10 pounds before his next appointment...

I on the other hand haven't lost much weight if any at all.. I keep hovering around the same weight.... why does it seem so much easier for guys to lose weight?? :P

The reason being is that men have more muscle mass than women. The more muscle you have, the more calories are burned.

ok so im at the very beginning stages, but i started the couch to 5k plan yesterday and am eating much more consciously....the first run of the program was great, and made me feel like im not that out of shape (even though i know i am)

i dont have a scale, so im not going to be keeping a tally of pounds lost every week or whatever...im going by how i fit into my clothes and how i feel...ill occassionally weigh in at the gym, but i can more or less feel when im losing weight, is that weird?

what are some thoughts on potatoes? i used to have a personal trainer and he told me absolutely no potatoes, im wondering why that is? i feel like they should be ok to eat as long as i dont fry them and if i swap out the other carbs in my meal for some taters! thoughts???

i found this....

Dr. Walter Willet, Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition, Harvard University writes:

"Potatoes are a great way to survive a famine. My grandparents survived the Depression on potatoes. But in a contemporary, sedentary society, potatoes are unhealthy, with a very big glycemic load. We've seen in our studies that higher potato consumption is related to a risk of diabetes. They are very rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream-more than eating pure sugar: sugar is only half glucose when it's broken down, potatoes are 100 percent glucose. There's not very much in terms of redeemable nutritional value that you get for the calories. Unless you are extremely lean and extremely active, you can't tolerate them. If you really like potatoes, you can have them in moderation now and then, but the trouble is that a big mountain of potatoes on your plate twice a day is how many people eat."

"Actually, careful studies have shown, demonstrated that you get a bigger rise in blood sugar after eating potatoes, a baked potato, say, than you do from eating pure table sugar."

One of the few positive qualities of potatoes is they have a high satiety level, however in my opinion the negatives far out weigh the positives. If you eat potatoes make them an occasional food, rather than a daily food, keep portion sizes low and don’t count potatoes towards your daily vegetable intake.

http://www.nutritional-healing.com.au/cont...0bad%20for%20us

and this....

Potatoes have gotten a bad reputation with the popularity of low-carb diets. Potatoes are healthy and good for you because potatoes are low in fat and are a good source of vitamins and minerals. One medium potato has 153 calories so you have to keep that in mind if you are watching your weight. Potatoes are often served with high calorie and high fat toppings like butter, sour cream or gravy. Potatoes that are fried as chips or fries can contain acrylimide, which is a toxic substance.

To keep your potatoes low calorie and healthy, try serving baked potatoes with salsa or some broccoli and just a sprinkle of cheese on top.

It's all about calories in vs. calories out

Try to get the most out of your carbs and get them from fruits. Fruits have much more vitamins, antioxidants. Also, try to keep your carb intake only in the am hours. Little to 0 carbs in the evening, not even fruits.

Another tip,

Eat a good amount of food with high fiber content. Sorry to be graphic, but high fiber foods = bigger better stuff coming out of the exhaust and not staying in you.
