That's what you need - accountability!! Because my hubby has about as much willpower as I do (ie. not a lot!), it's hard for us to hold each other accountable. I'm hoping that everyone else here will do that for me.....

I am about 80 pounds overweight and started my diet at the beginning of the month. I have tried to loose before but some medication I was taking was preventing me from loosing so I stopped taking the meds. So far I am loosing about 4 pounds a week. I do go to the gym every weekday morning for about an hour. I do cardio for about 35 minutes and then do various weight training to ton up. So far so good :D

Hey guys! Congrats to everyone on this thread, for making the choice to change unhealthy patterns.

Michelle - I completely understand the difficulty getting motivated to exercise. Personally, it helps me initially when I have someone (i.e., my husband, aka Drill Sergeant) giving me that extra push. It generally takes about 2 weeks to implement a new habit ... that's what exercise is. So, the husband really stays on me for the 2 week period. By the end, I am seeing some weight loss and feeling better, plus the exercise has become a new habit, so I am more internally motivated to continue.

Cassie - Fabulous idea!!! I think I am going to draw up a list tonight :)

My progress: have weaned off carbonated beverages (which just about killed me!!!), have been exercising at least 5x / week (although not in the AM like I want to; that is coming next) and have lost 5 pounds.

Something that really motivates me: Every morning, tell myself, Just for today, I will eat healthy.

Makes it seem a lot more manageable.

Exactly what I've been trying to do.

Lost 5 pounds since the start of this thread, I hadn't posted yet because that's just me :P I don't like falling off the wagon sorta speak, so I refrained from posting something like: OMG YES I'm in, woot woot!

Love your idea, Cassie!

And great thread!

glad you guys like the idea! :) I told my hubby that I shared that idea with you all and he was like "um, so how close are you to your first goal?" Dang, I hate accountability! :P

I cant wait to get home and start exercising again, and taking this bull by the horns. You know what bothers me the most?? is that I'm in Italy, everyone is skinny here and I look like a whale among gracious and tiny seahorses!!

When I get to the US, I am SO gonna get my butt in action, the prize list is a good idea, I saw people at WW doing it. I might even go back to them, as far as accountability... I dont know if it's because he doesnt want to hurt my feelings or what, but Rob seems not to mind that I've gained weight, and you know? I love him for that, but it's not doing me any good... (I'd be crushed if he complained about my weight - it all goes back to feeling attractive), but maybe I will just tell him, hey, just stand there, see how much I weight today and let's do this next week again so we are both aware if I'm gaining or losing.

Well, off to work (actually my brain is so mushed by jetlag - that I'd rather go back to the hotel and sleep), I'll be around later... Hope everyone has a great Thursday... and keep on losing!!

Ana

...and doesn't it just make you ill that everyone is so thin and with all that lovely Italian food right THERE???

I'm starting to walk today, by hook or by crook. I know I'm going to have to start slowly and work my way up, but I have to at least START before I can increase how far I'm going, right??? Good luck losing, Losers! ;) M.

PS..and remember, (I'm saying this as much or more to myself than anyone else!) just get off your BUTT! Even cleaning the house..dusting, vacuuming, etc etc...is doing *something* and better than just sitting on your booty...every little bit will help! I've always been very active at work, etc...but the last two years of just going to school and increased back pain...I've lived a pretty sedentary lifestyle! :( Time to change that! Another motivator for me is thinking that the more I move just around the house even, the more will get done..the happier I will be, the happier my family will be..and on and on and on...it's a circle, to be sure! Crazy how much weight can affect so many aspects of our lives, hey? :) M.

So...how are all you Losers doing this week? :P

Me?? Meeeeehhh...not so fantastic. :( Unless sweating counts...water weight at least, hey? It's been so darn HOT and I can barely tolerate sitting much less walking (I know, I know..excuses, excuses!) ;) but I have been watching what I'm eating...most of the time! Tough habit to overcome, but I know I can do it.

On the upside, we're buying a treadmill from my aunt and uncle and we'll put it in the basement...MUCH cooler down there. Not when we're walking, I'm sure, but that's ok...at least it will be tolerable...and I won't have to worry about looking halfway decent before going out in public! :) Thing is, I won't go out walking or to do anything until I've had my bath/shower for the day...but then when I come in I'm all gross...so I would rather walk on this sometimes and THEN get cleaned up...I think it will benefit me..we'll see. Craig wants to use it too.

So how's it goin for you? :) M.

i just moved to california and joined a gym a few days ago! i've gone all but one day since joining...so thats a good sign! i've also been eating fruit, yogurt, fresh salads, and fish. i did cheat and get a frozen yogurt twice but it was non-fat (but of course, not sugar free) ice cream/yogurt is my weakness!!!

i NEED to lose atleast 10lbs by the end of july. i'm going to fancy schmancy bridal shower in a 5-star hotel and i need to look presentable and i need to find a hot outfit to wear too! preferrably one i won't burst out of. lol

back to the gym in the morning for yoga stretch and a spin class!

Hi all

I bought a new pair of Nikes with a little chip that talks to my iPod. It moniters the distance and time of my run plus a lot of other info. After my workout I just plug my iPod back into my computer and go on to Nikeplus.com and it records all the info..onto my personal account...it is the coolest thing. You can program it to speed or distance or whatever you want...very motivating, and you can set your goals and keep track that way.....works for me cause I like that kind of thing. For me it is all about the exercise...if I do that I stay at the best wait for me, as long as I am moderate with my eating. What works for me is that I am very balanced in my eating all week, then on weekends, I allow myself some lee-way....it is all about moderation for the most part. I gained about 10 pounds since I moved here, and I know it is because I was not running regularly....so I got back to that, and now it is almost gone and I feel so much better.....the thing about exercise is that it is so hard to get started, but after you are doing it for awhile, you just feel so much better, motivating you to keep on going.....well for me anyway.

Good luck to all, and lets keep this thread going,

Our gym is closed this week for restoration work :crying:

But we took the bicycles out yesterday and will go a little while in the mornings now before going to work. It's usually too hot in the evenings.

I had icecream this past weekend too, but otherwise I behaved! We don't have any chocolate at home any more, but I'll bring some back from Germany in a couple of weeks.

Sweets aren't my weak spot, I don't eat much (in quantity), it's the sour creme and french fries for me. I try very hard not to eat fried food much, and it makes a difference. I'm down 4 pounds since this threat started. The heat helps, too, I'm just not as hungry.

Ana, my husband has exactly the same problem. He travels a lot and it's hard to eat healthy and lean on the road. And then the dinners with customers etc. He usually buys fruit and keeps it in his hotel room, thus only eating big once a day.

Keep it up, everybody!

I am still on my mission to loose 80 pounds. I haven't weighed myself since I was at the doctor's office last month and probably won't until I go in for my annual physical next month. I do believe I am having some kind of success, I am down two belt holes thus far and have started wearing my 42 pants again. "I'm too sexy for my shirt" :P
