Checklist/Affidavit of Support Question

My fiance received his checklist from the consulate in Montreal a week after I lost my job. Does he actually have to have the affidavit of support before sending the checklist back or does he just need it before the interview?

Given how long it seems to take to get an interview date, I'd think I'd have plenty of time to find a new job before the interview. I know I have other options (temp. job or co-sponsor), but I really don't want to slow down my job hunt by taking a temporary job. More importantly, I don't want to hold up the visa process, though. Suggestions?

Thanks!

Vanessa

one will have to be sent with the package, another updated one will be required for the interview. at least that's how it is for cr-1. i'm not really sure what you're asking :/ if you can wait until you find a job to fill it out? my personal opinion would be TO wait. if you think it wouldnt take long to find a job, might as well wait and do it right. unless you have a ton of money in the bank and assets to cover it and make it well above what is recommended. keep in mind also after you file the support papers for k-1, the one for after you're married is different and more in depth. i didn't know that but saw someone post earlier about their k-1 support papers and they weren't like my cr-1, then i did some research and you'd have to file the other one later. i know it seems like it would add more time, but to have them send something back and then send it to review again will take even longer :/

good luck. just my opinion :)

for the k-1 , the I-134 will be needed at interview time

sounds so much easier.

didn't know. sowwy

from uscis.gov

When do I file a Form I-864 if my fiancé(e), spouse, or child is a “K†nonimmigrant?

If your relative is either a “K-1†fiancé(e), a “K-3†spouse, or a “K-2†or “K-4†child of fiancé(e) or spouse, you do not need to submit a Form I-864 at the time you file your Form I-129F petition. Instead, you should submit a Form I-864 at the time that your fiancé(e), spouse, or child adjusts status to permanent resident after coming to the United States.

quick edit: here's the link, has more info on it.

You have plenty of time, you are looking at 5-6 months to the interview which is more than enough to look for another job. You not having a job at this present moment wont slow down the process. the I-134 is needed at the time of the interview.

Another option would be to get a co-sponsor.
