Hi thinking of moving to usa, am a 39 year old care assistant, with health & social care diploma, currently a uk citizen, i have no sponsor or family in the usa, that i know of, bit confused as to how to get a work visa, which one to apply for, they all seem to require sponsors how do i start this process from what i can work out i would need a work visa, which would be good because it would give me chance to live there first, from there a green card or applying for naturalization which would take 10 years overall any help and advice welcome

Here’s a list of worker visa types. Not sure if you would qualify for any of these and also not sure if that would even work as you are already mentioning immigration intent..

Have you been to the US before?

Based on what you have posted you have no path to a visa to live here. Carers do not qualify for work visas. In certain cases nurses do but carers are not in short supply here so we don’t need to bring them in from overseas.

Even if you are eligible for a work visa, you don’t apply for anything at all. It all has to come from the employer. And a work visa doesn’t necessarily lead to a green card. You’re getting way too far ahead of yourself there.

Unfortunately there is no visa category for just wanting to live here. You have to have a certain set of skills and/or qualifications (think degrees, etc), work in a higher end position in a multinational company that has offices here and transfer that way (think managerial roles) or be a major investor planning to buy into a business here and employ others. That’s aside from the family-based visas which you have already said you don’t qualify for.

But you can still visit and enjoy your holidays here. That’s something many people in the world can’t do.

Yes i visited new york oct 18 and san francisco 3 weeks ago, that kinda leaves me in a mess i could apply through other routes but really dont want to...why would intent to move to us be bad? I would have thought usa would want people who wanted to live there

In a mess? Why? Just because you can’t live somewhere that you have no family and no job? I’d think that saves you from being in a mess. What “other routes” do you think you qualify for?

Yes, in the 1800s the United States needed immigrants to boost the population and get the country up and running. It’s not needed anymore. Despite it’s portrayal as a “nation of immigrants” the USA is actually one of the most difficult places to immigrate to. The criteria are very strict.

One word of caution.......whatever you do, do NOT overstay your ESTA visit.  That would, at a minimum,  immediately void ESTA forever, and it would negatively affect any attempt to visit the US via a non-immigrant route in the future.

Certain visas are non-immigrant visas. If somebody would apply for a non-immigrant visa with the intent to go to the US and stay, it would be considered visa fraud (or misuse at least). That is why I mentioned your immigrant intent.

You mentioned ‘another route’, what route would that be?

Your best bet is to reach out through employers

I have no plans to overstay esta i keep things legal.  I could apply through talent for music but have no plans to work in music industry, i can  hear a song once remember most of the lyrics or my version of that song and tap the beat out with my fingers when arguing, driving or distracted, which may mean virtuoso skill, unfortunately i had a interesting childhood where i have been religious harassed by christian faiths suggestive stuff, i dont want to go down those routes just want to leave and forget or move on

Sounds like you have an Asylum case. That would enable you to get a work permit.

Perhaps your UK employer has a US-based office they can transfer you to?

Certainly one option.

Or look at investment visa's.
