For the past few months I have been noticing something happening with my intake of milk, eggs and cheese. When i eat it, i start feeling sick in my stomach, i bloat up, and after a while become very gassy. Just today i was feeling fine and then i had one of keith's nachos with cheese melted on it and then the symptoms occur. I may have to go to the doctor to get this checked out but was just wondering if there was anyone out there who has this?

I've noticed what is probably lactose intorerance developing in me over the past 10 years. I started with not being able to eat ice cream before bed. It would keep me awake all night. Then I started noticing ill feelings after eating lots of cheese. More recently milk and mayonaise have been causing me problems. I don't know if it's lactose intolerance, or just a general difficulty in digesting foods as I get older. Whatever it is, yeah, it sucks.

Im not lactose intolerant, but my mother is. I introduced her and my dad (big-time wheat allergy) to Whole Foods Market. They can be somewhat pricey, but carry all kinds of specialty foods for different needs, including dairy-free foods. My mom loves the rice-milk, and tofu-type cheese and ice cream products. Ive never tried the stuff, so I cant say how tasty it is, but mom thinks its great. Also, she takes Omnigest to help with digestive problems. I know Walmart carries it, but you could probably request your local grocer or drugstore to order it for you. Whole foods has a website where you can look for a store in your general area www.wholefoodsmarket.com

Good Luck!

We start to believe our son is lactose intolerant. He is only 2 years old and it meight go away. But there are lots of soy product now in organic shops and elsewhere. It is just so bad if we want to eat out or are at a friends houses. Mostly it is about cow milk, not goat or sheep. Which makes it alot easier.

But we hope it goes away.

Cheers Anja

Eggs have lactose?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

No way.

There's also a chance that it has something to do with the fat in dairy products rather than the lactose. Gall bladders are also known to cause all sorts of digestive problems.

I am lactose intolerant. Milk and ice cream will cause me to vomit violently. However I can have a scoop of frozen yogurt now and then, and I can eat cheese very easily. So i think there is something else in the milk i am allergic to.

You can get lactaid at Walgreens sweety... I'm lactose-intolerant but I live icecream and milkshakes and pudding etc, so it was a lifesaver for me! All you have to do is to carry some of the pills or tablets around with you and when you see dairy on your plate eat one first!

Also, you should find that yoghurt doesn't have as bad an effect on you - it has good bacteria in it that pre-digest the lactose for you, and which also help to out-multiply the bad bacteria in your insides so you don't get as bad cramps and gas etc. (the gas is a byproduct of the bad bacteria which live on the lactose your body isn't digesting properly...) so eating some yoghurt every day is a Good Thing.

And lastly, they sell a lot of lactose-reduced or lactose-free dairy products now, and they're a lifesaver too... they're made with regular milk that has had the lactose-eating enzyme added to it so they're much better for you than the 'fake milk', or at least they are for me - processed soy milk gives me terrible heartburn and indigestion!
