This add annoys me

I'm not a smoker, but these anti tobacco ads are pretty irritating to me. This latest one is the lamest.

"Truth" Ad

"As long ago as 1969, a tobacco company executive agreed to avoid direct advertising to young people, yet 10 years later (1979) they supplied their products to be featured in the muppet movie...

Okay, first- are we bashing the tobacco companies for something they did nearly 30 years ago? Second of all, they said "direct advertising" and supplying products in a movie is not the same as "direct adversting". The muppet show was long known to be a show that was full of double entendres appealing to both adults and children, and surely we all know by now that by now people smoked in movies made in the 70s.

Just my opinion.

During our last trip to Jordan, my husband ran out of cigarettes and had to buy Marlboro Lights there. Right on the pack, there is a photo of a diseased lung.

The diseased lungs are even worse in real life. I've seen many a lung laid out on a pathologist's table, being dissected after the "previous owner" had died of lung cancer.

I remember far back when they had commercials on TV for cigarettes. I can still remember some of those jingles.

I Think Smokers have the right to chose whether or not they want to light up and compromise their health,So long as they do it in a way that no one else around them has to smell or be exposed to their habit. I am not a smoker, I can't stand the smell of smoke and agree with Smoking bans at indoor public places such as resturaunts and Airports. I do not thuink that it is fair to tax smokers unfairly.

However these Truth ads are bogus. Also the ads by Phillip Morris about resources on how to quit smoking.

i think there's a law or something that the cigarrette companies have to tell their customers how to quit.. yeah.. weird ain't it.. lol

isn't that hard.. i've stopped for periods of 2-3 years.. no biggie.

Anyone from the UK remember that early 80's anti-smoking ad with the "natural born smoker".

It went along the lines of "if God wanted us to smoke this is what he'd look like". The result was somewhere between a street punk, Sloth from the Goonies and one of the orcs from lord of the rings. Gave me nightmares as a kid.

17 yrs ago, I quit b/c it made me feel like #######, when I woke up- coughing up all that garbage every morning. And my daughter was born- I wanted to be around a while for her. I was addicted to nicotine and I liked smoking at the time until it just caught up to me - about a pack and a half a day. It wasnt easy either. I doubt if they had those commercials 14yrs ago (or maybe they did- I dont remember anyway) would have been a factor for me quitting.
