Getting all of my paperwork ready for my interview on 12/10. Does it matter if my document originals (marriage certificate, my husband and kids’ birth certificates) are a few months/years old, or should I get newer ones?

I don’t see how would that matter. The officer might not even want to see them.

Thanks for update and Many Congratulations. I filed online Sept 30 based on employment (5 year green card) and finished my biometrics Oct 25 at ATL office. Hoping for Interview sometime Jan with oath in Feb if things move as fast as they did in your case. Can you please provide details of what documentation you  took for the interview.

@alph Good luck to you!

The interview letter from USCIS indicated that I should bring the letter, green card, passport and any other document that I used to enter the US. In addition, it said that I should also bring original of any document that I submitted while filing my application online.

So, I took:

1. The letter

2. Green card

3. Passport (current & old) + EADs (&APs)

4. Itinerary of the cruise I went on after filing N400

5. SSN Card

6. Marriage Certificate (even though mine is employment based.. online N400 forced me to submit a copy of the marriage certificate)

7. Kids birth certificate (again online N400 forced me to submit copies)

8. Speeding ticket information (as printed from PD website) and the fine payment confirmation

9. Last year tax document

Of these, the interviewing officer was keen on my cruise itinerary and used it to update my N400 application in the system

She said she is not worried about the ticket as the fine was under $500.

I'd suggest that you be the judge of what you want to carry to the interview. The documents I carried fit in a small folder.

Even though it seems excessive, I didn't mind taking them with me to the interview.

Hope this helps!

We are DONE....My wife had her oath ceremony yesterday. I was a moment we had worked towards for a long time.

From entering the country on a K1 visa in 2016 to becoming a US citizens took about 37 months. I realize that, compared to many others in this situation, this is relatively short, and we are thankful for that.

With all the hassles and uncertainties along the way, it's sometimes easy to forget what a privilege this really is, one that many others will never have the opportunity to pursue. I hope that people don't loose sight of that, despite all the  inconveniences we have to go through to make it there.

I am thankful for the help this community provided us along the way. I wish everyone a speedy and painless journey to citizenship.

If anyone has any particular question, please pm me.

Just finished my interview and was recommended for approval! I brought a whole folder of documents including my income tax forms and proof of relationship but all they asked to see was my green card.  My interviewer said they would try to schedule me for a December 6th oath ceremony that's taking place in my city!

Congrats! What civic questions were you asked?

1. What did the Emancipation Proclamation do?

2. How long do we elect a Senator for?

3. Who was one of the authors of the Federalist Papers?

4. How long do we elect a U.S. Representative for?

5.What is the capital of Massachusetts?

6. Who was the father of our country?

I got the first six questions right so we stopped there. (Although he did ask me who the mayor of my city was and said I'm the first person who got that right. : ) He also said afterward it wasn't one of the official questions and wouldn't have counted against me.)

The reading test was "Who can vote?" and the writing test was "Citizens can vote."

Possibly. But if you will notice the spreadsheet for July filers, I am the only one left that didn’t get the interview schedule yet. Either they are completed with interview and oath or waiting for their scheduled interview. (Chicago, IL)

Interview was scheduled for December 24th in Santa Clara CA field office. I hope they won't close the offices this day like they did last year. Estimated completion date still shows April 2020.
