I cant stop thinking about the mistake i made with my application online. Most said not to worry as i can always settle/correct it during interview. 2 days after i submitted the application i noticed that the date i entered marriage with my spouse, it put his birthdate instead of our marriage date. I cant remember how it happened as i did put his birthdate right. Anyone made a mistake as well or is just me? 😔

I somewhat impulsively put that I wanted a name change on my application. My legal name is too long and so in the form, I indicated that I wanted to change it (to a shorter but same name) anyways, after stupidly doing that, and having everything submitted, I found out that name changes delay your oath taking since you can only do judicial ceremony (with a federal judge) vs the more common administrative ceremony (with an IO) so yeah there’s my big regret. But anyways, I will just let the officer know in my interview that I changed my mind and will not proceed with the name change anymore. I’m sure you can change that minor info in the interview. :) If you have included his year of birth as well, that is an obvious mix up in the approving officer’s eyes. A mistake that was certainly made in good faith, so I hope it works out. Maybe you can try messaging USCIS about it as well using MyUSCIS?

I will definitely take that over my field office who still haven't even updated my completion date. My NOA is 07/12 and I heard St. Paul (in my previous post I referred to as Minneapolis, since they are twin cities and I mixed them up lol) is one of the least efficient. But maybe I’m too impatient. Yikes. You go guys! Happy to go through this journey with y’all.

I think this depends on your local office.  Naturalizations with a name change, from what I understand, have to be sworn in at a Judicial Ceremony.  Without the name change it can be an administrative or a judicial ceremony. Some offices have regular administrative ceremonies while others do administrative ceremonies with infrequent judicial ones. Someone posted a link to a site where you could see the schedule of ceremonies for a specific office and whether they are judicial or administrative. It may affect your wait time, or it may not at all.  I just can't find the link or recall where it was posted.

@LoveAlways2 This exactly! And if you know what district court has jurisdiction over your county (more so where you currently live vs. what county is your field office at) then you can check their naturalization schedule and get a feel for how frequent they hold judicial ceremonies. Sometimes a judicial ceremony can be held in the field offices as well depending on the number of applicants.

Also worth mentioning, is that when you change your name, you will have to fill up a name change petition during your interview. The petition and determination of the court will then add a little bit to your processing time, depending on what your state’s name change process is. It just makes sense because name changes, either naturalization related or not, the judge will still need to approve it. I read that if you change your name before your interview, then you can just bring the Court Order and consider it done. I wanted to do that before interview but the name change law of the state I live in is so obscure and archaic that I changed my mind. Also, I’m moving to a different state. I checked my new addresses jurisdiction’s previous history of naturalization - it looks like in the District court, they only do it once a year (to the point that these oath taking ceremonies make news in the county newspaper) so yeah. No way I’ll risk that. I’ll just let the officer know that I changed my mind. In your case, you can ask him/her what the process will be like for your specific office. It really is a case to case basis, maybe after knowing the odds then you can decide.

Hey all, what do we consider NOA1?  Is that a physical paper notice in the mail?

Or email Payment Confirmation for the USCIS N-400?  <<< this is the only thing we've received so far which also includeds the IOE number.

You get both the email and the paper notice in the mail if you file online. The paper notice takes at least a week to arrive, I’m most cases. The NOA date is the date at the top of the page or on the email that says Date of this Notice or something to that effect.

Since it looks like you filed in paper, then your NOA 1 would be the receipt notice from your service center in the mail. Whatever date on that notice will be what you want to consider as your NOA 1 date. The payment confirmation is not yet the NOA. Hope that helps!

Awesome thanks for the clarification, makes sense.  Will wait for the paper notice to confirm receipt date.

Thanks as well.  We did file online but yes will wait for the receipt notice since the payment notice is not quite the NOA.

BTW, has anyone been having issues getting to the my.uscis.gov still?  I'm still seeing the error page.

Yes. It must be down again. Strangely I had no issues the other day when they were doing scheduled maintenance. Didn’t even know it was down. Got an email saying there’s an update in my case today and can’t log in. I did biometrics yesterday so it’s prob ably just that. Still annoying but I guess they’ve got to do what they’ve got to do. I actually like the new improved site so I won’t whine about it yet 😁
