Got my biometrics letter on friday. The appointment is for Aug 29th but going to do a walk-in today (Raleigh, NC) to try speed things up. Anyone here have experience with this office? The most recent approved EAD from Raleigh I can see on here was 1 month from biometrics to approval!

CIS Office : Raleigh NC

Date Filed : 2019-07-11

NOA Date : 2019-08-06

I believe all EAD are from the National Benefits Center and not local offices.  Maybe it was an expedite?  1 month from biometrics is amazing!

did you fill out the form to alert you by txt that your case has been received? if not you wont receive any txt msg.....

Yes, we did, and we received texts upon receipt of the EAD, AOS, AP. My question still stands:

Does a text message precede the letter with the bio appt?

So, it's been over 5 weeks since our NOA and no biometric appointment letter yet. Wondering if anyone else has seen that long a delay?

07/08/19 - AOS Received

07/11/19 - NOA1 Date

Seems like the biometric appointments for most people are at about 5 weeks. Does a text message precede the letter with the bio appt?

Quite a few May filers are still waiting for Biometrics. Idk if it's a glitch or cases are being worked through sporadically by the service centers, but there could be a delay in Biometrics.

What text message are you referring to? The one that states your case has been received (check cashed, etc)?

I'm wondering if the biometrics appointment letter just comes on its own, or if there is a text message notification (and/or email notification) ALONG WITH the letter.

We filed Form G-1145 with our EAD/AOS/AP application, so we got text messages upon receipt by USCIS of our application. Now we await the biometrics appointment letter, I don't know if we'll continue to get text notifications or not.

Oh okay, no there's no text associated with the biometrics letter. It just arrives sometime after the NOA1, usually a week or two after but it's been known to take longer for others.

Sent package on August 1st, they signed for it August 2nd......I still have nothing :(

I called USCIS after 3 weeks and was told they can’t even start to check until 30 days has passed.  I had proof from FedEx that I-485 package was received in Chicago but nothing had been processed.   On the 29th day I received NOA.  It took 51 days from when they received package until I had biometric appointment in Detroit this past Friday.   So don’t waste your time calling until 30th day has passed, if you haven’t heard anything.

We went to our 11AM Bio appointment in Revere, MA last Thursday... There were 127 people in front of us and my husband didn't get in until 2:30. Lol...  why do they call it an 'appointment'? 🤯

Hi everyone! I have a few questions, hopefully some of you will know the answers.

Whilst waiting for my EAD I would like to volunteer at a local library. Can I do that? Or is it considered a grey area of working somehow?

I have a degree from an Italian university. How did you guys get your degree "converted" to US grades? Is it even needed to do so? I am kind of confused. Thanks everyone, and good luck!

It is my understanding that as long as you aren't volunteering in a position that is usually paid, you're ok.

As for career, I can only speak to my experience and research: I work in the entertainment industry in a unionized position and my 15 years of experience don't mean a thing in the US.  I can't apply my previous work toward joining the union here.  I basically have to start over, working my way up the ranks.

My guess would be, getting a job would be based on your experience and industry.  I don't know that converting grades would be necessary unless you were continuing your education here.

You may find more informed answers in the "your new life in america" forum.
