You're right. I found this website that explains the situation in Texas, where they are located. It still looks that you cannot be arrested solely for not having proof of status.

https://www.aclutx.org/en/SB4

" Local officers can still ask about immigration status, if they choose to, but only during a lawful stop or arrest "

" If local officers decide to ask about immigration status, they cannot hold a person longer solely to inquire about their status or attempt to verify their status with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). "

" If a local officer learns that someone is undocumented, he or she cannot arrest or continue to hold the person on that basis

There needs to be more uniformity nationally or no one knows how to act

I've searched but can't find an answer....we still haven't gotten our I797 in the mail yet. Uscis told us to wait an additional 30 days before calling again. My husband's GC expires on the 17th of September. I'm worried we won't get the I797 before it expires! What happens if his employer finds out or he gets stopped by traffic police?!?!

Hopefully you get your case letter soon. Like someone else mentioned, since it's a permanent resident, albeit conditional, employers most likely won't ask for proof but you could provide the letter once you receive it (I'm not sure on this but it might not be required....based on states perhaps?). For the traffic police, he should just travel with the expired GC until the letter comes through if he's concerned. I think a lot of recent issues and checking status has come with he cracking down on illegal immigrants, but having a GC, even if it is expired, shows that your husband is here legally.

All the best!

Biometric done today, 08/21/2018. My time line is below:

07/16/2019 - I751 package delivered to USCIS (Lewisville, TX)

07/22/2019 - I797 - 18-month extension received in mail - assigned to Vermont Center (EAC-------)

08/10/2019 - Biometrics scheduled for 08/21

08/21/2019 - Biometrics done, the whole process is less than 5 minutes, no update on USCIS website yet

Now cross both fingers and toes for the long wait

Update, today, 08/27/2019 - old website updates the case status to "Fingerprint Review Was Completed", new website still stays unchanged "We Received Your Case".

Again, continue to cross my fingers and  whatever else that can be crossed for the long wait.

For those whose cases are with the Texas Service Center (SRC). My husband called today USCIS because we have not received a bio-metrics appointment letter for him. They basically created a ticket number to request the appointment be made/letter sent out and asked my husband to wait another 30 days before calling back if he does not receive a letter in the meantime...

7/17 USCIS received package

7/22 Received NOA dated 7-19

8/27 Called USCIS to request why no Biometrics appointment, ticket created, told to wait another 30 days.

If you note, someone in this feed said they called after one month and were told to wait another 30 days. Perhaps it is time for you to call USCIS?

I couldn't get a hold of them on the phone, there was no option that said "to speak to a representative press#" is this normal?! Also what option did you choose to make the online inquiry?!
