Tech education of fiancee - could be a problem?

Hi everyone.

I have read that tech education and work experience (like programmer) may cause additional questions and eventually admin check.

Have anyone experienced that? What can I do to avoid that additional admin checks?

PS: I also wasn't officially employed last few years. Possibly, it may add some suspicions too. ((

well, I read that people brought their CV, publications, detailed descriptions of projects on which they worked, contacts of previous employers - that may help to explain everything a bit. I am definitely not a spy :)))

Did you have any experience yourself with admin checks because of the tech profession?

Actually, it sounded a bit strange for me initially - admin check only because you are in tech. But then I read several such examples and wanna be prepared.

And how about admin checks for fiancee only because she is in tech? Have you heard of such cases?

Ahh well that would rule me out, yes depending on the area but Science background can raise issues.

Husband has degree in programming and worked in tech. No where at any time was he questioned about this, nor were any additional checks done than any of the normal ones that happen during this process. Previous employment and education must be listed on one of the forms before the interview process.

 

I'd only imagine if the individual worked for a potential hostile government agency that partakes in criminal cyber activity, or a nuclear scientist perhaps.

Yep, I read a few cases that people who work in tech got additional admin check because of this. This is for CIS region. That's why I decided to clarify it.

There are people who have been asked for their CV. And additional information about one's employment history, educational background , etc. can be requested, and can be a component of additional security checks.

Although an explanation (words or documentation) to the CO won't impact if checks are necessary. There is a process in place for checks, not just a CO doing something to make it happen on a whim.

Nobody knows exactly what triggers extended checks. A STEM background can be one factor, but so are areas worked and traveled, military and government work, potentially contacts (known or unknown) with certain individuals already on their radar, etc.

Yes, we don't know what triggers these checks. So, I have to be prepared for that.

You can't.  And why would you want to?  Could be perceived as trying to conceal information, thus leading to more background checks.

I don't want to conceal anything. I just want to be prepared. For example to bring my CV (though it's not required), whatever else what I can do to make the process smooth and more quick. That's why I asked that questions. Maybe some people already had similar experience and may advice smth.
