Employer background check

Well last week I was offered a job with a government department in PA.

Turns out my 4+ years in my last position is not considered enough and they want 10 years employment history.

They have been in contact with my previous employer and my 4 years service has been confirmed.

I worked in the UK for 2 different UK government departments in the last 10 years. Problem is I cannot get in touch with my employer from 4 years ago. I went as far as trying to contact old work colleagues via facebook to find out if they still work there to provide me a contact number/email for HR

If anyone has worked for the UK government you know there is no face to the organisation, no 'reception'

Absolutely gutted. I'll need to withdraw the application.

Not so fast there, cowboy (sorry couldn't resist from seeing the profile pic)....

-try looking up the contact details for the HR department on Google?

-old P60 forms/UK tax filings would have contact mailing addresses for the company?  Might give you *something* to work with.

-if no way to get email/phone number, but you can figure out the mailing address... write/fax them and ask for a record of employment letter?

Just trying to think off the top of my head here....don't give up yet!!

I've googled my ### off and no contact details for the HR department. It's a big government department well one of the big 4, I dont want to disclose where I worked on a public forum.

I even tried contacting the call centre 3 times (thought one of the 3 different people might tell me) related to the department and each time they couldn't tell me as they were unable to determine if it was a breach of security. Even spoke to a supervisor, no dice.

Old p60? All of them were electronic, I never got them before I left.

Now, HMRC might be a shout, I know I can request a Statement of Earnings from them. That would show my complete employment history with dates and pay. I'll need to call them.
