Agreed, not having an EAD or GC does not preclude one from looking for future employment, just make sure any perspective employer knows you are still awaiting work authorization.  Other things you can do is get a hobby, explore your community, etc.  Unfortunately, one of the issues with a K1 is the wait after the AOS/EAD/AP are filed.  I know with my wife, we did a lot of things to help her adjust and she explored on her own as well while I was at work.

Good Luck!

Unfortunately, and I say that as having had my husband here through K-1 visa process. This is part of the 'restrictions' with the K-1 route. While for us it really was only means of being together, others do have the CR-1 option which would eliminate this matter completely in sense of AOS'ing. Others have been in your place, so while it can be a pain, have to occupy your time. Make your now spouse take a trip somewhere even for a few days, more dinner/date nights out, go explore your area. Obviously if you just sit home 24/7, yea most would lose their minds, but got to find other things to do in the mean time.

I mean, you made a concious, adult decision to do K1 visa and AOS process. You knew that you wont be allowed to work for a while. This is just a consequence of your choice.

Been in your shoes. It was the best time I ever had before was able to go back to work.

Not sure where are you located but might be that there is a lot of stuff to do.

Yeah making friends is hard. Very hard. BUT just to be able to hang out with ppl can ease your pain. Also stop chatting with your friends from.back home all the time so you would not feel homesick.

As others said, go out explore, free museums, get a cheap bike off craigslist, go biking, a lot of libraries have different programs where you can do craft, join a bookclub, do ESL, meetup.com where you might find event related to your work, or just ppl who want to hang out and do something. Summer is here, a lot of free events are happening. There is a lot of free to cheap stuff to do, dont need to be a millionaire. Just quit being sorry for yourself and go out and explore your new home, because once you start working you are going to regret not exploring, doing your hobby etc.
