Wrong NVC case number ?

 Hello everyone !

I called NVC to get my case number and they issued me one, for a K1 visa. The problem is that the number starts with my home country letters while i am living for almost one year in Asia.

I called them, i called USCIS, i called both embassies(EU and Asia) and i also completed an online Inquiry Form on NVC's website ( providing evidence that i live and work abroad). It's been 3 days and still no answer.

In my initial application for USCIS i clearly specified that i am living and working abroad, giving them my address and local phone number and working place.

My question are : where will my case go, back home in Eu or where i live now ? Can they change the number with the correct one ? Will this delay my case ?

I can have the interview in both countries but i would like to have it where i am currently living. Checking on NVC's website, my case is still at NVC.  We did not receive the letter from NVC with the case number.

If anyone had the same problem, please advise!

Thank you!

First off you can make all the requests in the intial application for where you want  to interview but USCIS will use the home address you used in the application.  That's how it works.

So here is what you now need to do.

If you wish to have your immigrant/fiancée visa file transferred from one Embassy to another U.S. Embassy/Consulate, please contact the appropriate U.S. Embassy/Consulate directly in the country where you wish to apply and follow their instructions for case transfer. Please click here for the full list of all U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas.

The old Embassy will need to receive a formal file transfer request from that U.S. Embassy/Consulate in the country where you wish to apply. Upon receipt of this request, they will immediately forward the file for the New Embassy to process. (Expect up to a 30 day delay)

Once you contact your New Embassy you then can discuss the transfer of your fee if you have paid it prior to the decision of transferring your case to your new embassy. Be sure to have your payment receipt available.

If your case goes from embassy to embassy then NO you don't get a new case number. The case number will began with original alpha nomenclature ie. AAAXXXXXXXXXX. If her case comes from NVC then you will have a case number starting with the embassy that you will interview in. To make your payment using your old embassy's case number you establish your profile with that case number then you link your payment to your profile.

 Hi,

I don't want to transfer my case. I want to have it here where i have lived for almost one year. In my USCIS forms i specified this.

What i don't understand is why NVC gave me a case number starting with my country of origin when i was very clear that i am living abroad.  I contacted both embassies and also made an NVC inquiry but still no answer.

So, 100% will my case go to my country of origin or should i still wait here, abroad ?

I did not pay anything, i just got my NVC case number by calling them. No NVC letter or DS-160 yet..

I just explained it to you what the procedure is that USCIS uses to determine your embassy.

I gave you what needs to be done. Ignoring my experience may not match your expectations but it is officially what you need to do to fix this. Bxtching about it is not going to change anything.

You need to get it reassigned before it leaves NVC or transferred if it has already been shipped to the wrong place.  (Greenbaum had provided the instructions to get it transferred).  It takes NVC the better part of a week or more to respond to emails.

Get on the phone to NVC and stay on the phone until you get the answer

Why are you calling USCIS or the embassies if the petition is at NVC?

Arken, I will check those sections but i am sure it was filled with the country i live in.

Greenbaum    I am not b...ing, i am curious why they put my country of origin when in the forms i completed that i am living abroad.  My case is still at NVC so a transfer would mean that the case is already in one of the two possible places : country of origin or country of residence.

  Very strange!

Hopefully my Inquiry Form sent to NVC and my emails to both embassies will help in changing the case number before it leaves NVC

I will let you know what happens as soon as i have any updates. I thought NVC phase would be easy but it turns out it s the hardest for me.

Thank you for your answers!

In this situation NVC is where you need to inquire.  The embassies have no clue as to who you are.   Don't rely on the email,  Call NVC

YMMV

I did call NVC but they said to fill the Inquiry Form, the operator could not do anything as long as a number had been assigned.

I might end up going home but at least i want to be sure i have to go otherwise it will be a comic situation chasing my case on two continents.

Based on historical practices,  NVC will ship on Tuesday or Wednesday.   Clock is ticking

YMMV

Call them again, may be another Rep can help. As long as your case is in NVC, assigning it to the new embassy is faster. Once it ships to an embassy, transferring to another embassy is a long process, as suggested by Greenbaum.

Also email directly to asknvc@state.gov requesting the transfer.

Put in the subject line: “Case number - Request for change of US embassy”

Mention all your details like petitioner and beneficiaries info, existing case number and where you want it transferred and why.

Even after email, keep calling.

It says :   " At NVC --- Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents. Once NVC has received all the required items, they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete. You can also find these instructions online at...""

I still did not receive the letter.
