Immigrant Visa validity

Hello, I am not just if this is the right place to post this but please I need advice.

My brother has an Immigrant Visa that is valid to October 2019 and he is waiting for his greencard but has an event to attend in Canada.

Can he travel and come back to the US with his Immigrant Visa or does he have to wait until he gets his greencard before he can leave the country?

I will appreciate your response please.

Many thanks

Your brother has an immigrant visa that is valid for ONE entry.  Upon arrival he will receive a stamp in the passport the is a temporary green card and can exit and reenter based on that while waiting for the plastic card

YMMV

Payxibka, thank you for your reply. To be clear, the stamp he got at the airport says "Admitted Chi,  then the date of arrival and f-24"

Does that stamp then make the Immigrant visa a temporary green card until he gets the plastic?

Probably says F2A not F24

But yes, the stamp is what creates the temporary green card.   Upon admission,  he was granted resident status

YMMV
