Hi guys, I luckily managed to get my green card super early. My only issue is I don't have a SSN as I applied for it with the i765.

I'm going to go down to the SSN office and ask them about it. So I'll keep this updated for anyone in the same boat. I was just hoping that someone else will have had this experience so they can share what happened with them.

Thanks very much Declan

I was in the exact same position as you, got green card way before EAD. I wouldn't go to SSA just to ask about the card you applied for on the I-765. The wait time can be long, and they likely have no idea that you asked for a card to be issued on the I-765 yet, since your I-765 hasn't been approved. Just go to SSA with your completed application for a social security card (SS-5), along with the required evidence and your new green card and apply.

Okay I'll do this. Thanks for the advice.

Go to SSA and talk to them once you have green card in hand. You no longer need the EAD and that petition would be closed.

our situation was similar but slightly different. my husbands EAD was expedited. got that, went to SS office to see if we could find out the number (we knew the card would be mailed but he needed it for work and bank). apparently someone at uscis did not request the ss number (i know i checked the box, i double checked my copy of the file i sent). so, the lady at social security took care of it (make sure you bring all your paperwork). A week later we had the card.

You SHOULD receive yours in the mail automatically but just as we did, i would really suggest to go to social security to at least make sure it is pending, and if not, they can get it going for you. If we had simply waited, it would have taken even longer to get it before we realized it wasnt coming, and been several more weeks of delays.

The SSN that you applied for on the i-765 comes directly from SSA headquarters in Maryland as that's where it is processed. Your local SSA office would have no clue about that application being processed.

Usually it will come in the mail 7 to 10 days after your EAD

I went to the office and informed them about the i765. They didn't seem to care and they went ahead and got my application set up so I'll be getting my SSN within 2 weeks.

I just couldn't find anything online about my specific case so I'm hoping people will find this if they're in my situation.

Agree, lol.

Just posting for others reading who may not understand the process of where the I765 SSN comes from so as not to be confused when your local SSA is clueless (as usual, lol) if you go there before the I765 SSN is received.

Was just using your post as a reference for others😉
