Yes your so right most employers care more for the money ,my boss is a fair guy. We were talking about sex offenders last week, that was why my boss had gone online to check. Some guy had approached him about a job and rumour had it, that HE was a sex offender, that was how he came across the customer.

OMG this customer even brought in homemade cookies!!! that is how friendly he was! Still in shock, but I am sure I will calm down. Having said that it won't make me feel any better about HIM!

This person may not be a paedophile but to me, a sex offender is a sex offender. I would be very uncomfortable around such.

In some states/countries, you can end up on the sex offender register for public urination. Unless you know what he did, you can't automatically assume the worst. That's why those public registers are so pointless.

Sounds alittle more than peeing in public and yes I do understand there are certain degrees of sexual abuse, all are bad in my book.

I agree though that public registers are useless if they only give a hint of what may of happened!!! not fair to the public or even to the offender.

Well, not always. You can get over it. I think people saying that it's a 'lifelong sentence' for the victim doesn't really help, because it makes the victim feel like they'll never get past it. Getting over it is extraordinarily difficult and you can't do it alone, and it takes years if not decades, but it can be done.

I'm not suffering and I don't feel like a victim. I have a perfectly normal life (including a normal sex life) and I'm not depressed at all at this point in my life.

Here in the county we live in, the sex offender list is precisely that. I've never heard of anyone being charged with a sex offense for public urination unless said offense was done in the presence of a child or children. I'm sure, however, you will find something to substantiate your opinion on this.

I refuse to let my daughter near a known sex offender if I am aware of his or her presence. Ending up on the sex offender registry is pretty accurate IMHO. I'm one of those rare parents that are grateful for such a list. BTW, this link shows the sex offenders in MY area and what their charge is, specifically WHY they're on the sex offender list.

The check we did tonight showed an offender that we didn't realise was on the list. We've talked to him on many occasions in Helen as we rode in his buggy...with OUR daughter. Now that kinda scares me just a bit. If that makes me paranoid and judgmental, then so be it. It's our daughter and we will protect her how ever we need to.

I completely understand and agree with parents' concerns about their children having contact with a sex offender. However, one thing to keep in mind is that a charge of statutory rape may be an 18 year old having sex with his 15 year old girlfriend. I have seen that happen before, where a kid does get that charge. To me, there is a huge difference between an 18 and 15 year old having consensual sex and between a 28 year old and 15 year old having sex. Both cases can get a statutory rape charge. However, in the case of the 28 - 15 year old, even if the 15 year old consents to sex, there is such a power differential based on the one being 28, that the sex is not truly consentual. I wish that charges of statutory rape would list the age differential, but they don't.
